Hi Explorer, thanks for the question. When installed correctly, and in conjunction with other handrail brackets, these rail brackets will hold 250lbs of direct, downward pressure. Thank you.

What is the projection of the bracket from the wall?

Check your wall stud spacing //16" on center is normal // depending on how long the rail is that you will be installing -- space the bracket // I used two brackets on a 5' rail

How far apart should brackets be installed?

install the brackets to the wall studs // 16" on center or double the space to 32" // you need the support and a solid mount ( wall stud ) for a solid foundation !!

The only reason this is not 5 stars is that I believe the screws should be a better quality, gotta be real careful not to strip out the heads.

Hi RAF, thank you for your feedback. These brackets have been tested for load-bearing and pass all requirements. Be sure the screw is drilled through drywall (or whatever wall board you're using), and into a solid wood stud behind it. That is the best way, and the way installation is stipulated in many building codes, to mount these brackets to the wall. Thank you. SureWood-LNL

Hi Likwid89, we are extremely sorry that you did not like the finish of these handrail brackets. You may return them to the store for a full refund. Or, if you ordered them online, you may return them with the postage-paid mailing label that was included with your order. Again, we are sorry that you were not satisfied with these brackets, as well as delays in completing your project that you incurred. SureWood-LNL

I needed brass or gold in color. But you only had black or silver, so I painted them gold. They work and look great.
