How do the clamps work, and do they work well?

Asked by anonymous February 14, 2021

I haven't used it yet. As a retired inspector of all kinds of production goods I can share the following visual observations: The "clamps" are plastic. The portion of the clamp that fits into the holes are appears to be solid. The holes themselves are of a tapered diameter, with the larger dimension being at the top, then narrows down to the bottom. This would be where the "clamping" effort will be experienced. Other users have complained that the clamps loosen and are useless. I can see why, over time and use. For me this is a non issue. I have only one use for this product, to cut bevels into toe kick boards. 4 cuts and I will be done. I guess the saw that comes with it might be of some use down the road. As for the rest of it, I will be careful to not rely solely on the "clamps" to hold the boards in place. In that way perhaps I will be able to extend the life of the clamps for future, unexpected use by minimizing back and forth motion which could cause wear in the hole/clamp interface. I suppose I can use some kind of real clamp to augment or just replace the plastic pieces by holding the boards securely to the box interior. I purchased this product to avoid paying more for more elaborate and more costly table saw for the same limited use project. Since I haven't yet used it, this is admittedly just an observation and prediction supporting others' shared complaints and the sample I have here. Material characteristics of the box might have been changed by the manufacturer to boost the clamping power over time and use. Only one way to know for certain. Just an opinion, not a declaration of suitability. Caveat emptor, as the age old saying goes. And you can apply that to this free opinion as well.

No. The max width that fits is 4.5". But if you need to secure your piece it should be 1-1.5 in narrower. You can sandwich clamp your piece between some other straight boards and make your cut using them as a guide.

what I needed for artisan project, but couldn’t see use in clamps
I didn’t understand the clamps. I couldn’t find a way for it to hold my wood. So I used a decades old traditional clamp of my late father’s. My dad’s old maple wood mitre was all worn out and I didn’t have the right kind of saw so this kit got me both needed items. I tossed the so called clamps. I couidn’t have finished my little robot friends without it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this last weekend to help with tight and narrow working spaces. Thought it would honestly suck, I was wrong and completely happy with the price and the handling of this. Cutting wood by hand was extremely easy.

I bought an old house and had a contractor install brand new hardwood floors. They wanted about $3,000 to re-do the 3/4 round trim in the whole house. I nixed that from the budget and did it myself. I did the 1st floor with my miter saw and it was a pain. I measured everything, went to the garage to make my cuts, and brought the trim back in to install. This resulted in some perfect cuts and some bad cuts. It's really hard to measure long sections of 3/4 round trim by yourself because of how floppy it can be. When I did the 2nd floor (about 1400 sq feet) I decided I'd just get a hand saw and miter box so I wasn't throwing sawdust all over the fully furnished bedrooms and I could cut right where I was installing. This also meant I didn't have to measure anything, I'd just hold a piece of trim up to where it needed to be and mark it with my knife and cut it on site. I literally just finished the whole upstairs, I haven't even cleaned up the sawdust yet. The reason I'm writing this review is because I was hesitant to buy this cheapo miter box because there are some bad reviews on it. The miter box and saw worked perfectly. The angles were spot on and everything fit together better than the job I did on the 1st floor with my 10" miter saw. I just left small piles of sawdust all over the perimeters of the bedrooms where I made my cuts. Easy vacuum cleanup. I ended up paying about $250 in materials. This $15 box helped me save over $2700. One particular reviewer mentioned the angles were off and they would only get worse because they chewed up the miter box with a saw. This person clearly did not know what they were doing. The pegs work great, but if you wrench them down the miter wall will flex and change angle - don't do that. After cutting about 300 linear feet of 3/4 round my angles are still correct and the miter box is not chewed up anywhere that would change that. I imagine the person who chewed up the edges of the slots was probably struggling to push the saw through, forcing and jerking it a lot. First, only cut on the far side of the box. Second loosen your grip on the handle if you're struggling to push it. Let the saw give a little upward. This thing works great provided you've got the right technique. Pictured is the very last 45 degree corner cut I made.

The box itself is acceptable, but the teeth on the saw are far too coarse for detail work, especially on softer woods. It makes for difficult starts, and poor finishes on the cut pieces.

Love it! Ised it for the first time and it worked great!I used it to cut cedar planks to line my closet. Held the wood in place and precise with the pegs that came with the box. So excited I was able to complete this project myself ! Couldn’t be happier.

As I have been replacing my power tools, I grabbed this for a quick job of finishing a couple frames for cabinets I had. Remember to bolt it down before you start making cuts and you won't be disappointed with this tool. The picture I attached shows the frame at the bottom of the cabinets for which I used this tool for.

Wouldn't be able to do my project without this box. I needed to cut 2 aluminum u-channels for a frame of a new screen door at 45 angle and also shorten the aluminum frame (cut 2 side pieces at 45 angle). It was somewhat slow process because I had to use my hack saw with blade for metal which was 18 long. So the wing nuts didn't allow me to move saw back and forth much and they also constantly hit the box and caused some damage to the plastic. The pins worked very well and once tightened the piece didn't move at all even though some were up to 8' long. The cut was more or less clean but I had to file off the rough edges. In all door fits and slides perfectly, pieces cut to proper size. I also used this box to cut a piece of 2x4 with the saw provided, which was a much faster experience.
