Hello, How fine is the blade of the saw? Does the saw cut smooth and precise, without eating the wood, which results in uneven line, wrong measurements and a lot of sanding afterward? In case I decide to use a hacksaw, which is the blade of my choice for precise and smooth cuts, do I need to search 14in one, so far the longest one I found personally is 12in, is it going to work?
Asked by: Jim
The blade is not as fine as I would like, you would need a coping saw blade. Start slow and make a kerf to keep a smooth straight cut

14.5 in. Deluxe Miter Box with Saw Included is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 591.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Your Father's Stanley... This product, like several other Stanley products I've purchased lately, are truly of poor quality and functionality. I'm not sure what happened to this company as they used to be quite reliable, but this is without a doubt the last time I will buy a Stanley product. It's funny, well sad actually, this box saw advertises that it has a built-in stop on the saw to prevent it from cutting into the box, but even that failed spectacularly. That isn't even a difficult feature to incorporate in the plastic molding tool that is used to manufacture the thing, and yet the tolerance that was used allows the saw to easily start cutting into the plastic. This is just one of many that I'm not even going to spend the time to explain. Suffice to say, get something different. Anything. Just do yourself a favor and resist the cheap price tag, because this isn't worth even half of the price listed. Same goes for their entire line of stud finders, and on and on and on...

It is what it is... Inexpensive but I picked it up while visiting my mom in another state. A room needed the baseboard replaced and of course I had no tools, particularly not a good miter box or saw. For the price this was perfect. I would say that while it would never replace a good setup that it worked for my needs. You need to pay attention to what you're doing with it. The angles are good and the only problem I ran into was baseboard being taller than the box for one section I was doing. I tried the 45 degree horizontal and it worked perfectly. Takes some doing to cut oak baseboard with this saw, but patience and persistence works it out. Much better than spending well over $100 to replicate what I have at home for probably a one time use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay product, not that accurate, not tall enough I have a power miter saw, but I was cutting baseboard trim late at night in a condo with neighbors on both sides, so I bought this miter box so I could make a few cuts noiselessly. Well a lot less noise and dust than the power saw!! Straight cuts are fine, the 45 degree cuts are not as accurate as the power miter saw, but caulk will cover it. The box is not tall enough for my baseboard, which is only 3.5 inches tall, so check that whatever you are cutting is under 3.5 inches, otherwise you cannot use the 22.5 degree cuts, and there is a 45 degree cut with the workpiece lying on its back, but only in one direction. Also with just a few cuts the saw is cutting into the plastic box, so I expect that the accuracy will go down quickly. The cam pins are a really nice touch. All in all not that good, but it's inexpensive and if you only need a few accurate-enough cuts and you don't feel like dealing with the dust and noise of your chopsaw, this could work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for small baseboard project! I did not want to make a hasty decision on a power miter saw for a small baseboard project in the kitchen. So, I chose the Stanley Miter Box with a saw and 2 pegs for two reasons: (1) I had to learn how to cut angles, and (2) I was only going to cut about 20 ft. of baseboard for this project. I recommend others learn the basics too before jumping into "pro" projects. Glad that I did buy a wee extra bit of board so I could learn what to expect when I cut 45 degree angles for inside and outside corners. I took pictures for my own sake, but decided to share with all of you. As a 64 y.o. woman with arthritis I saw slowly, however, the end result was a smooth cut that fit well enough. I learned that even a good fit does not mean your wall is straight (caulking will resolve that small problem). LOL

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for DIY projects! As someone who lives in an apartment, but loves to do DIY projects, finding space to use and store larger tools can be a bit of a challenge. This little miter box is perfect for apartment (or anywhere!) use and it allows me to complete projects with crisp angles and easy clean-up. The pegs offer a secure grip on whatever I’m cutting, wood, plastic, etc., and the ability to hold a variety of sizes is a huge bonus. Overall, I think this tool is a must have for DIYers or anyone looking for a simple, space-saving solution to larger tools. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great for those who don't need to miter things very often. Lightweight and easy to get out and set up, perfect for quick miter cuts. Includes two material hold-down pegs that lock the material that you're cutting into place - the pegs are cam shaped so by selecting the proper holes and twisting the pegs you can get a nice snug fit and secure the material without excessive force that could damage the material. Saw could be a couple inches longer - the cutting strokes have to be short or the far end of the saw will come out of the miter box, breaking your rhythm. Miter box is made of sort of lightweight plastic so it probably won't stand up to heavy usage. Clearance channels below each cutting path prevent you from cutting the miter box so you don't have to worry about cutting too deep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, accurate, awesome! Bought this over a year ago and I use it all the time. I’m more of a hand tool woodworker and it gives me perfect cuts every time! You can screw it the a bench but I usually just clamp it on the tabs and it’s perfectly secure. The included saw is great as well! Provides smooth straight cuts without the guesswork. Definitely something to have in the shop! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rewarding manual labor I bought this product last month because I had to install crown molding in a room I worked recently and I am very pleased with the simplicity it offered. I was looking at mitter saws and at the end decided to save the money for other expenses. This tool reminded me that doing things manually is just as rewarding as doing automatically..
