Tougher than most
I bought my first fat max when I was a rookie framer in the early 2000s. I thought it was an awful lot of money for a tape measure. But, I had to get used to buying professional grade tools. A few days after my purchase I was on the 4th floor on scaffolding when I dropped it. I was waiting for it to explode like every other tape I had dropped from more than 20'. After climbing down to retrieve it, I discovered that it was just fine. I haven't bought another brand since. I have had more than I can count along the way, and they have all served me well.

Good tape but inaccurate with detailed measurement
This tape is heavy duty, withstands drops and excellent withdraw and retract. However there is a gap between the end of the tape tab and the beginning of the tape. It’s about an 1/8 in gap. Normally this little bit doesn’t affect what I’m measuring, but I was measuring for countertops and it did make a noticeable difference.

      Outstanding tape measure
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have several tape measures (other brands). However, my 25' Stanley Fatmax (which I have had for several years) is my go-to unit. The length it extends to without bending (around 10') is a real time and effort savings. Even after much abuse, it still is as functional as it was when I bought it. I have dropped it from a 2nd story window, ran over it with my truck, left it in the back of my truck for a few days and it rained! and I have left it at several customers locations, but they have all contacted me and I got it returned...kinda like that bad penny. It is he bewt tape measure I own.

        Boomerang qualities
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a new father I took up woodworking to build long lasting things for my son. A step stool and a growth chart are the first two things I’ve built. This tape measure has “boomerang” qualities because when my toddler snags it from the table top as I’m working, he always seems to bring it back right when I need it. I own 2 now. One for me and one for my son. They say measure twice cut once, as a new woodworker, for me, it’s been measure thrice cut twice. Lol. The measurements on the growth chart are spot on thanks to the FatMax

So tough even teen trades students respect it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a number of Stanley FatMax 25’ tapes in service at my building trades program. 100+ kids a year put these tools through their paces in a wood shop environment and they are not gentle. My students are constantly testing the stand out capacity of these tape by poking their friends from across the room. The ruggedness of the metal is evidenced by the hundreds of times the kids let the tape snap shut, and the hooks still allow 1/16th for the thickness of the hook itself. The feature that I personally feel is the #1 reason why I continue to spend my extremely small budget on Stanley tapes is how easy they are to read, even through fogged safety glasses. Any product that survives a high school shop environment as well as Stanley does is worth every penny.

            SRANLEY Classic Fatmax
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Its a classic for a reason. This is always my go to tape measure. If your in a trade or just a diy'er. FATMAX will be the best option. You can just feel the difference and no one can deny Stanley Fatmax isn't a good tape measure. Don't waste money on flimsy ones just get Stanley Fatmax you won't regret it.

              FatMax's brother MaxSteel
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The date in the tape of my MaxSteel 25' measure says 1988, so I've had this quite a long time. The bright yellow case is very durable, and has survived many drops from my toolbelt. This is one tough tape measure. Model number on this one is 33-599 and if the FatMax is even half the MaxSteel, you will end up keeping this measure quite a long time. It is easy to find in my toolbox and has been a key reason that my projects come out as expected.

Quality is not what it used to be.
First impression is it is a hefty tape. I got this tape for around the house. When i framed i had a fatmax and loved it but that was 10 years ago. Now the plastic feels cheep and the lock and clip seems like they wouldn't hold up to daily use. As for the retrieval of the tape why even have a tape lock on the thing first time i extrnded the tape to 6 ft I had to pull it back (as you can see in the picture the lock isn't set and it's not retracting) in there is no tention on this spring. As for the promis of 14 ft reach that is a joke once it hits 10 ft it buckles. I would not buy this if you wanted something to last or hold up to daily use. I am very disapointed with my purchase.

I have had the 30' version of the fatmax for more than 10 years. It does everything I ask of it and more. I use it on an almost daily basis. I bought this 25' for my wife because she often borrows my tools and puts them back (somewhere.) It has worked well for her so far. It is a little big for her hand, but the width of the blade and the smooth workings is a real plus. I could have purchased a less expensive (read that as cheap) tape measure. The problem is the quality is so extremely different it isn't worth the price.
