Questions & Answers

How do I replace blades?

Asked by: Sammy
What genius at Stanley decided not to put ANY instructions as to how to load blades into this? It has this little diagram that shows how to get the blade out but NOTHING, I mean NOTHING as to how to load the blades. It is absolutely ridiculous that Stanley doesn't have the brains to put something on the packaging to show how to load the blades. Completely ridiculous. You have to go googling it to figure it out. Who let this get out into the market without someone, anyone, at Stanley saying 'uh...maybe we ought to tell them how to load the blades'.

Replacing blade on Stanley knife 10-788

Replacing blade on Stanley knife 10-788
Asked by: Vito
Extend the blade all the way forward, then push down on the top button again, the blade will extend just a pinch more! Now depress the yellow (blade-release) button on the side and hold it; the blade will come out easily, it'll even fall out if you hold the knife so the blade points downward. To install a new blade: ensure the blade carriage is FULLY extended, depress the yellow blade-release button and slide the blade in! The blade carriage will not lock in the over-extended position, it will slide back just a pinch into the in-use fully extended position. It sound oh so complicated but once you've done it once, you'll laugh at the fact that you ever had trouble

Customer Reviews

Instant Change Knife is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This Instant Change Knife is awful Not sure what Stanley's definition of instant is, but it has been one hour since I tried to use this piece of junk. Could not even remove the cardboard that came with this piece of junk...you would not allow me to say the word(s) I really wanted to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Literally the worst tool I have ever bought! On first glance this knife looks excellent; clever, comfortable, functional. In reality, the blade takes a PhD to change. The video here must use camera trickery or magic because I have given up trying to change a blade after 20 minutes. It's now been put in the scrap metal bin and I've ordered a competitor brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hot garbage Bought this a few days ago and it's the worst knife I may have ever bought. It certainly is not "instant changing" as it has been 1 hour+ of me farting around trying to get the blade inserted and have it take. Thank God I don't work on a construction site or they'd have fired me for taking an hour to change a utility knife blade. You can press the yellow button till your'e blue in the face but you won't get the blade to take properly. That means you can't retract it, let alone use it because all it takes just two fingers to pull the unset blade back out. .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible tool - never able to use I bought this because it had a comfortable grip, but I agree with other reviewers that it is pretty much impossible to move the blade slider to the full front position. I messed with it for 15 minutes, then went online to watch the video (really, it requires a video to make a utility knife work?!?). Even then, I could never get it to open or extend a blade. Returned it to the store and bought a competing product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stanley, U kidding me? Make it EZ to change blades Couldn't figure out how to get first blade in, looked at reviews...returning, don't need the hassle...Stanley, it COULD HAVE been a great product, but I wouldn't have in my toolbox if you gave it to me!!!
