A: Hello D98, The 10-189C has not been tested with other types of blades. The part number recommended for a blade replacement is BOS11987.
A: Negative. It's for triangle shaped blades. The frame is already molded and grooved to fit that shape.
A: right. not a good design in my opinion.
A: Yes, it is a safety feature designed for this purpose. You can buy a regular utility knife that does stay open. More jobs are requiring this type of self retracting knife.
A: Yes, this is a Self-Retracting Utility Knife, meaning the blade retracts back inside when the button is released
A: round tip blades are indicated that they will fit in this tool.
A: Yes, number on blade that came with knife makes it easy to find or order on line.

A: No there is a tiny, nuclear powered hydraulic piston that is attached to the blade that extends and retracts the blade.
A: yes... and that is a problem.. there is no way to keep it in the open position. too hard to work with.
A: yes, it has a spring that sucks the blade in, you have to push it out to get it to operate, pushing against the spring, as you pull it through what you are cutting, cardboard say, it stays out to the friction on the blade, when you get to the end of your cut and the blade comes out of the cardboard, the blade auto-retracts back inside.
A: Yes, the spring-loaded design automatically retracts blade.
A: Yes. Works very well.
