Product Overview

  • Ideal for boat covers, umbrellas, acrylic cushions, and tents
  • Clear formula does not change the color or feel of fabric
  • Helps prevent fading from sunlight
Star Brite Waterproofing with PTEF restores water repellency to virtually all marine fabrics from boat covers to bimini tops. It is also the easiest, most effective way to waterproof car covers, tents, tarps, foul weather gear, convertible tops and more. Star Brite Waterproofing is also great for use on new fabrics, greatly extending their service life by providing an additional barrier to moisture and damaging UV rays. It's easy to use; simply spray the fabric to be restored and allow it to dry for 6 hours before use. Always apply Waterproofing outdoors, taking care to not breathe the solution. If surface to be waterproofed is dirty or stained, clean it with Star Brite Sail and Canvas Cleaner. Fabric to be treated must be dry. Apply enough Waterproofing with sprayer, brush or sponge to thoroughly wet top surface. Take care to avoid overspray, drips or penetration onto surfaces not being treated. Allow treated item to dry for 6 hours before using. Do not fold or store treated item until dry. Use only in a well-ventilated area.
  • For boat covers, bimini tops, sail covers, clothing and tents
  • Contains PTEF for UV protection
  • Safe for all fabrics
  • Does not change the color or feel of fabric
  • Use on new fabrics to extend the life
  • Allow up to 6 hours to dry
  • Apply with sprayer brush or sponge

Can this be used on a painting to allow it to be hung outdoors.

It would be subject to sea spray and sun
Asked by: Joan
I used this product on a 20 ounce canvas drop cloth, using a paint roller to apply. After product dried, I poured water over the canvas and it just rolled off. I would suggest you paint a blank canvas with whatever medium your painting is in, then coat with product and set outdoors to test it.

It does work, but I have to say that after a particularly heavy rain, the water eventually went through my large outdoor sunbrella so I was pretty disappointed with that! It does deflect water very nicely but not with super heavy downpours like we get in S. Florida. I probably would have needed to double the treatment and given that this product is not cheap in general, I would rather purchase an actual waterproof (not water resistant) outdoor umbrella, and pay the extra money, because in the end, it will cost the same honestly, and I won't have to do the work of rain proofing it, twice! I also treated my outdoor furniture and so far so good, but again, with heavy rain, not as effective.

I shopped around and could not locate enough waterproofer to cover a gazebo. Found spray cans but it would be impossible to cover a gazebo canopy. The 128 oz Star Brite waterproofer was the thing I needed to pour into an inexpensive plastic sprayer and cover the gazebo, patio umbrella and a few outdo seat cushions. Rain came and all was protected.
