Answer This Question

A:  Clear glass is not available, and you would have to order door at your local Home Depot to get bronze hinges as long as the store sells our doors in their system.

Q:Love the door, have a question about safety. Would the glass squares be able to be broken and someone then able to access the inside lock?

    Answer This Question

A:  Unfortunately the answer is yes, some could do that. The glass is tempered, meaning it will take some force to break the glass. FYI: Most modern alarm systems and Alexa/Google Minis will pick up the sound of glass breaking. Thank s for question.

      Answer This Question

A:  Wood Species: Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum). Wood Growing Location: Malaysia This door is made with engineered wood. I have included the following to help you understand why the industry has gone towards engineered wood. Solid external doors, particular hardwoods like oak, will always have a premium allure to them. There’s an undeniable attraction to products with a solid hardwood construction, but they might not always be the best choice for your project. The door is made from engineered cores. This allows you to have the real look of wood and less maintenance of a solid wood door. Engineered cores are a more modern approach to door leaf construction. Multiple layers of timber are pressed and glued together in different directions to form the core material, with a veneer applied to the surface and lipping fixed to the edges. As solid doors are made of whole intersecting pieces, there is an inherent strength that comes from the construction. They are, however, susceptible to environmental changes such as variations in humidity and temperature. Exposure to factors like these can cause a solid door to warp or bow, making it twist and gradually lose shape. By having layers of timber running in different directions, an engineered core is able to evenly distribute any stress applied to it. This makes an engineered door far more stable than its solid counterpart. This modern construction technique also provides better thermal insulation than that offered by more traditional methods. Hope this helps.

          Wow! Just wow!
Installed this in my 1977 mid century modern house and BAM! It totally completes the look. Quality is beyond excellent. Even the precuts for the lock set were perfect. Not too tight. Not too loose. Bonus that it came with the matching interior trim too. Def. glad I hired it out as it’s a beast of a door. Truly the best money I’ve spent on my house in years.

            Pleased... for the most part
A Catch22 with installation. Liked and purchased due to appearance, uniqueness and stature/weight... but because of 240 lb. weight it was difficult to balance the door when open. We had to make many adjustments to prevent it from slowly swinging fully open/shut on its own. Finally was able to get it to stay put at a variety of desired open postion(s) (e.g. so pets don’t squeeze out, so doesnt knock into wall - open wide). Also important to share that the “wheat” color depicted on HDs site is lighter than that actual color. So in hindsight, I would’ve chosen the dark mahogony color, but what can ya do after its already delivered and you need a front door. Of course its still a beautiful door and really showcases custom stone, upgraded porch areas. Its also super-cool from the inside when the sun makes the 24 glass lites pretty much glow into the entry area. Luv that! Make the right choice and add-on (Special Request) the Mortise Lock option. Reason being, its such a beast of a door when swinging shut, a standard handleset leaves me with a loose sounding rattle upon closing. Whereas the Mortise Lock would be a more secure close by reducing the weather-stripping deflection. All in all, i still recommend and say 4.5 Stars.

the pictures don't do this door justice - it is magnificent. we had it professionally installed, and so glad we did - it is heavy and beautifully made and we didn't want to mess anything up. seriously in love with this door. it's solid as a rock, but it lets in the perfect amount of muted light, looks stunning from the outside and the inside. steves and sons should be proud - this door was worth the money, and the wait.

I had someone else install it so I can't speak to that, but it is gorgeous! Pricey but worth it in the end. I was worried that the tiny windows would be a security risk or see through, but neither is the case. Very pleased.

The door is beautiful, but it was not sized correctly for our brick trim. It did not come with that option on the website but the installers told us we might return it and re-order the proper molding...but we pushed them to install it and it came out great!

This door is stunning. Couldn’t be happier. Only wish I could order side lights that match for my windows on each side of the door. It is very substantial and beautiful.
