Q:how well will this stand up to snow and rain all weather events?
by|Feb 25, 2021

Answer This Question

A:  It is engineered wood. I have included the following to help you understand why the industry has gone towards engineered wood. Solid external doors, particular hardwoods like oak, will always have a premium allure to them. There’s an undeniable attraction to products with a solid hardwood construction, but they might not always be the best choice for your project. The door is made from engineered cores. This allows you to have the real look of wood and less maintenance of a solid wood door. Engineered cores are a more modern approach to door leaf construction. Multiple layers of timber are pressed and glued together in different directions to form the core material, with a veneer applied to the surface and lipping fixed to the edges. As solid doors are made of whole intersecting pieces, there is an inherent strength that comes from the construction. They are, however, susceptible to environmental changes such as variations in humidity and temperature. Exposure to factors like these can cause a solid door to warp or bow, making it twist and gradually lose shape. By having layers of timber running in different directions, an engineered core is able to evenly distribute any stress applied to it. This makes an engineered door far more stable than its solid counterpart. This modern construction technique also provides better thermal insulation than that offered by more traditional methods. Hope this helps.

          PrettyDoor
The door came in a FANTASTIC MASSIVE crate enclosing, don't expect to bring your truck to Home Depot to pick it up. We had to pay to get it delivered. Door is well made and pretty. The thing that bothered me was the middle panel had the top left side slanted to the right about 1/8 of an inch. Not in your face noticeable but there. Mario at Steve's Doors/warranty department said that is normal to allow for expanding and contracting. If the slant would show the unstained wood they will send a tech out to touch it up. The other thing I wasn't expecting was the dark black spot that came on the inside casing. See pic. This is normal for Popular wood. I think both of those things should have been mentioned especially since we paid almost $3,000 for the door.

            Extremely nice entry door!
If you don't read anything else, this door is gorgeous and operates flawlessly. I'm in the middle of a complete home remodel. When it came to new entry doors I stopped by my local Home Depot door department. We ran the numbers for a custom Jeld Wen Craftsman door that is almost identical to this Craftsman door and the cost was going to be $3600 before tax! I just happened to look on Home Depot online and found this door for $2158. For the $1400 difference I felt it was worth the risk and ordered the door basically sight unseen. When it arrived at my local Home Depot I was very impressed. The Chestnut color is stunning and exactly what I wanted. The manufacturer shipped the door in a huge wood crate which properly protected it. There was zero damage to the door during shipping. Once home and unpacked the door slid right into the opening. We only had to slightly shim the top for the door to shut perfectly. The door feels extremely solid and sturdy. The only reason I didn't give the door five stars, there are a couple places where they didn't not get the finish 100%. Mostly in the cracks of the craftsman panels. Good news is they ship with the door a matched color Chestnut paint pin to fix these, so it's not a huge deal. I could also leave it as-is and I doubt anyone else would notice. In the first week I had the door installed no less than 6 people stopped while walking by and complimented me on the new door. Everyone that has seen it was extremely impressed with the look and quality.

This is a stunning door. All solid wood, I dropped the review only because their was some sloppy finish work from Steves & Sons. I would go direct to them if I could figure out how, but if I give a not so great review it will get to them too. The nails that they used to tack on the wood around the glass, those nail points were sticking out just enough to be dangerous. I got caught on one, could have been bad as they just barely stick out and are sharp! I had to have a carpenter tap the tips blunt, costing me labor, probably blowing my warranty, and it took over an hour to do. I love this door, it is the prettiest door I have ever owned.

The door is beautiful however there are dimples in the glass so not sure about the quality of glass being used. Outside of the glass being poor, the door itself is very pretty!!

Door is beautiful. Really well constructed. No issues with warping even having to attempt to place and remove numerous times (opening was framed exactly around previous door needing modification). Would recommend to anyone. Thank you.

Door looks beatufil and the details are great. I replaced my old double doors with this single door with sidelites and all my neighbors have been complimenting our new door. The beveled glass makes it look classier and stands out. The glass is completely see through so just an fyi. I ordered the hickory color but I feel its a bit darker than what I expected. I did request a special order from Home Depot for the dental shelf and I am super glad I did because it gives it that extra detail that makes it stand out.

Beautiful door . The door is warped from midway to the top right corner . The manufacturer said to wait 8 months to see if it will flatten. It is Not acceptable to have a new door not close properly with AC and heat bills. Never heard of a wooden door “ unwarping ”
