DHC tankless water heaters are ideal for residential and commercial point-of-use sink applications including: bathrooms, cabins and cottages, office buildings, stores, malls, warehouses, restaurants, and gas stations. They heat water instantaneously and endlessly at 99% efficiency as it flows through the unit. Because they do not store hot water like tank water heaters, they have no stand-by energy losses. Venting is not necessary and the compact European design can be installed with the unit visible. The hot water temperature delivered by a DHC depends on the incoming cold water temperature, the flow rate through the unit, and the size of the DHC model. They excel at supplying water at a constant temperature but the model must be carefully matched to the flow rate of the sink to operate properly. Refer to the DHC Sizing Guide to determine which model you need. Call Stiebel Eltron at 800.582.8423 with any questions. Stiebel Eltron invented tankless electric water heating technology more than 90 years ago, and is still the industry pioneer and world leader today, with an engineering and manufacturing tradition of excellence.
  • DHC 5-2 is designed to provide endless hot water at 99% efficiency for 1 low-flow lavatory sink in cool climates, or 1 low/medium-flow lavatory sink in warm or cool climates
  • Requires 240 or 208-Volt electric service with 1 dedicated 20 Amp breaker and 12-Gauge copper wiring
  • Model must be carefully matched to the application in order to operate properly
  • Water connections are 1/2 in. NPT and should be detachable (such as braided steel flex connectors or isolation valves) to allow for easy servicing
  • Overheat safety protection and thermal protection reset are standard
  • Sleek European design is considerably smaller than a tank, saves space, and allows installation flexibility
  • Made in Germany
  • Professional installation recommended
  • Call Stiebel Eltron at 800.582.8423 with any sizing questions
  • 7-year leakage and 3-year parts residential and commercial warranty against defects in workmanship and materials under normal use

Questions & Answers

Could the DHC 5-2 work for two sinks in a bathroom?

The house hot water tank is too far away from our double vanity and I’m considering a point-of-use electric hot water heater. The DHC 5-2 looks good for a single sink but will it work for a double vanity where the sinks are 4 feet apart?
Asked by: Rick
I bought this to hear water for a small sink with limited used. It never got the water hot. At best it was warm. I don't now if it was the water pressure or if the incoming water was just too cold. I removed it an put in a small electric 4 Gallon tank system. Water is now hot and the tank was very easy to install. The tankless unit is now back in the box it came in put away in a storage closet. I may find another use for it, but it would have to very low pressure water use.

I'm considering upgrading from a traditional heater simply to save space. All other benefits of this just icing on the cake. Its just me in an efficiency space. I like to take hot showers, so would this be ideal for that? or should I consider a bigger unit?
Asked by: Sassy
I would suggest looking at a bigger unit. The DHC 5-2 is a unit that is designed to run at a slow flow rate. You would want to look at a bigger unit such as a DHC E-12 and use a shower head that is 1.5 GPM. Please call our technical department for any further sizing questions / issues at 1-800-582-8423 ext 6. Thank You

Customer Reviews

DHC 5-2 4.8 kW.73 GPM Point-of-Use Tankless Electric Water Heater is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described, meets my needs I used this at a handwashing sink in my workshop. The 4800 Watt heater raises incoming water temperature about 40-44 degrees F at the flow that I use, which is consistent with the manufacturer's specifications, which are available as a pdf file from the Home Depot page describing the product. Note that this termperature rise will -just- reach 100F when incoming water temperature is about 55F. It's fine for making handwashing comfortable, but you would need a bigger heater if you want hotter water or larger flow rate. The compact size of this heater makes installation easy, and there is no plumbing code requirement for an added expansion tank, as is required for tank-type water heaters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great This unit works great for my shop. Finally can wash my hands in hot water. The hoter the water you the less water pressure you’ll have. But for my shop that’s cool.
