Product Overview

  • Space saving wall-mount design
  • Glass-lined tank
  • Made in Germany
An SHC Mini-Tank Water Heater excels at supplying hot water as a stand-alone supply of hot water, or in-line as a booster to a hot water tank. It can be used in food trucks and recreational vehicles, or as a buffer in a DHW recirculation loop. It saves water and electricity by putting hot water right where it is needed. The small tank and excellent insulation reduces stand-by losses compared with larger tank water heaters. Used in conjunction with a hot water tank it allows immediate hot water draws without waiting for a long pipe run to purge itself of cold water. Lightweight and compact, an SHC easily mounts under or near a sink with its included bracket. Once filled with water, it simply plugs into a 120-Volt outlet. No special wiring is required. A T and P valve is pre-installed. A world leader in advanced water heating technology since 1924, Stiebel Eltron’s engineering excellence and high-quality manufacturing results in products fulfilling the highest expectations of performance and reliability.

Questions & Answers

Can I use this appliance in the hot water line as a reheat? My water heater is a long distance from the sink.

Asked by: Mike
It connects to the cold water line. You will not receive any hot water from your current hot water source. calculate how much hot water you will need at the installation point and get a big enough tank for that use. These go from 2.5 to 6 gallons. I use a 2.5 at my master bath sink. it's enough too wash my hands, face and brush teeth. The smaller tank uses less electricity also. Make sure you know what you are trying to accomplish and if you can accomplish that with this water heater, buy it.

How many amps does this unit pull

Asked by: Wes
1300 watts (1300 volt/amperes) at 120 volts will draw 10.8333 amperes. A 15 amp breaker is more than enough for this unit. Simply divide the watts (1300) by the volts (120) to get your answer. The only exception would be if the unit were located at an extremely long distance from the source (breaker panel); it would have to be at least 100 feet or more for this to apply. Only been doing this for 42 years so..

Where can you purchase replacement anodes? How often have folks found these needing to be replaced?

I have previously used Ariston POU water heaters which needed the anode replaced every 2 years and still they leaked after 6 years of use. Does it use the same replacement anode? I found those on Amazon.
Asked by: Ozarkie
Replacing an anode is not necessary for most situations. The purpose of the anode is to attract minerals which are in the water. You might be referring to the heating element and that would be dependent on the hardness of the water, use and temperature setting. If your heater stops heating, go to the plumbing section of Home Depot and they can help you with the right element. Also, another thing that might cause your heater to not heat water would be the thermostat; the folks in the plumbing section can help you with that as well.

Could this support 2 faucets in the same sink - a small beverage faucet and a full size kitchen faucet?

I have 2 faucet holes in my countertop and am replacing the current faucet set up with one that only requires 1 hole. I am thinking i could add a beverage faucet in the other hole. Could I install this water heater inline with the gas tankless water heater about 30’ away and branch the hot water to both faucets?
Asked by: FaucetQ
If its only for that use yes it will work but for a shower to little

SHC 2.5 gal. 2 Year Electric Point-of-Use Mini-Tank Water Heater is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product, so far I have two of these now, both working well tho they have only been installed for a month. Both are installed on hot water lines, not cold, due to long delay in getting hot water to needed locations. Now have nearly instant hot water, but remember as you start draining a 2.5 gal tank the cooler water is also entering, which soon serves to cool the water in the tank. So you don't get 2.5 gal hot water, you get maybe 1-1.5 gal and then it switches over to warm water. So this is really useful for short uses like washing hands, washing a few dishes, etc. Unit seems very well made (Germany), the 1/2 inch male connectors on the tank are metal not plastic, has a pressure release valve (many don't), solid look and feel to it, temp adjustment works well you will get very hot water if you want it. It's bigger than I though, especially the depth dimension, suggest you get the full specs from the S-E website so that you know it will fit the space. Easy to install. Only info I don't have is how much energy these consume. My impression is they are very well insulated and thus very efficient. But I may get a meter and try to measure this. Very happy so far, but performance over time is the true test,

Within one week, T&P valve began burping/leaking intermittently, creating a big mess. This still happened after flushing and attempting to open and close the valve multiple times. My cold water line has an expansion tank, so there is no over-pressure. Clearly a defective valve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puts hot water where you need it. I got this to provide quick hot water at the kitchen sink. The sink is far from the water heater in the garage and the pipes run through the foundation so it takes a long time for the hot water to get to the sink and it's not that hot when it does get there. The electrical circuit to the sink island was not adequate for a tankless heater so I opted for this heater. So far it provides very hot water right away and, as long as you don't use the water too prodigiously it makes rinsing dishes etc. easier. The recovery time is pretty quick although I have not timed it. Be aware that it has a overtemp/overpressure relief valve that, if actuated will release water. I plumbed it to a receptacle that can handle a quart or so. If the valve should actuate and not reset as it is supposed to...... Well, it could be messy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did Exactly What We Needed Like most people who get a POU water heater, our main water heater in our recently purchased home is in the garage, a good distance from the kitchen sink. It took at least 30 seconds for the water to start to get hot, and never seemed to be "hot", even though I turned the temp up to 130 degrees. NOW, after installing this POU water heater we have HOT water in 2 seconds. Installation, for someone reasonably handy, was not that hard and took about an hour. While I installed a simple drain line to a pan from the relief valve, the valve has never opened. I am not sure what the root cause is with leaking or relief valve discharge that others have commented on... knock on wood, I have none. Even thought the published recovery time is 18-20 minutes, the real world time is much less. Plumbing is all fittings and braided stainless hoses, no hard piping necessary. Electrical is a U-ground plug. Another feature of this model is it draws just under 11 amps (1300 watts). Most of the 120 volt models are 1500 watts and draw closer to 13 amps. Since we have a 20 amp service for the dishwasher and disposal, there was no electrical work necessary. At first, there was limited travel of the thermostat control knob. So I spoke with tech support at the US Distribution facility. Turns out there is a ring under the knob that limits travel, and as such limits the temperature. The person I spoke to was knowledgeable and pointed me at the solution within 2 minutes. The only negative I can think of is that the installation guide is for multiple models (had nothing regarding the ring under the control knob). So if you struggle with that sort of document, you might want to have someone help you or have a professional install this. This was well worth the money and effort. The dishwasher (which also gets its water via this mini water heater) now cleans much better. And it is nice not to have to run water for half a minute before you can wash your hands! The one I purchased (on line and delivered by UPS) works better than expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water heater works great and was easy to install The water heater works great and was an easy install. We have a long underground hot water run from the current heater to a kitchen sink. This water heater works as advertised providing nearly instant hot water since it's installed under the kitchen sink. Easy access to the thermostat is great since we can change the temperature anytime we want. The install was easy with this 120 volt heater that you can plug into an outlet. It looks like a high quality product but only time will tell us about the long term performance. I would buy this one again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little unit. I installed two units in two offices. Easy to install - nice-looking and compact. I asked the tenants to let me know if there were any problems and no one did, so that means they're working properly and meeting their needs for hot water.
