Questions & Answers

Can I overseed a semi-sparse Bermudagrass area with this? I?d like to begin choking out the bermuda over time.

Answer This Question

Thank you for reaching out to us. You can overseed with this dichondra. It will coexist for a time but most likely the Bermuda will be dominant in the turf area.

You can overseed with this dichondra. It will coexist with the grass and possibly take over, though possibly you might want to tip the balance by spraying with Grass B Gone. Test in a small area to make sure it doesn't damage the dichondra.

Yes!! Ive had it in three different kinds of lit areas and three different garden spaces. The only place I haven?t experimented with it is in Summer in full sun in all day locations.

Will this grow in California zone 10A and can I use this for over seeding my lawn?

          Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. Dichondra will grow in your climate zone. It is a warm season ground cover that should be planted between April and September. You can overseeding an existing lawn but it does require regular watering to survive as it is shallow rooted.

            Answer This Question

Dichondra requires lots of water especially during the hot summer months. Does not do well in frost. It will burn and die. It's a cool season plant.

                Answer This Question

there isn't much of a difference it's actually the same plant. With seed there is a cost differential and thus a savings in the area that you want to plant. dichondra these days is used a lot for planting in between paver stones and using a seed planting application makes a lot more sense for even broadcast and distribution and a happier growing outcome. thank you for your question regarding Stover Seed Company

I live in Gilbert, Arizona. Have seen Dichondra growing in some places. Will this product grow here and in lots of shade

                  Answer This Question

Dichondra will grow in shade but not in complete shade. Most grasses require either morning or afternoon light to be able to grow. If there is some daylight available in your area you should be ok. The nice thing about Dichondra in AZ is that it can handle the intense heat and still thrive. Thank you

                    Excellent ground cover
I'm adding 2 photos. First was 7 days after seeding, 2nd is at 2 weeks. I mixed the seeds in with miracle grow potting mix and sprinkled in between stones. I have been keeping the soil moist, but am now down to watering once a day. I began to see germination at day 4. I highly recommend these seeds!

Purchased the Dichondra Grass Seed and sprinkled it on my steppingstones and swept it in between the cracks then watered them every couple of days. In about 3 weeks they started to sprout and I got 100 % Dichondra Grass Seed. It weathered through the hot southern California sun with very little water. I then got a lush growth of dichondra . I went back and purchased two more containers of Dichondra Grass Seed and this time I was careful to sprinkle the seeds in just the cracks. This time I got a lush growth of weeds, crab grass and the like, and a few spots of Dichondra Grass . I tried pulling out the weeds but more and more came back with a vengeance. I will add a photo from the spring 2018 lush dichondra growth and on from spring of 2019 . I had to take control of the situation by spraying roundup on the weeded areas the other day, and will try again but I do not know with what company’s seeds.

These seeds are coated in blue. I’ve read about blue coating before and that’s not what I want in my garden. There was no label on the bag that they were coated, so I couldn’t have known before opening.

Every bag has a seed label on the back and the label references the amount of inert matter and references that it is a coated seed product. The color of the coating has changed over the years but that does not change the end product of Dichondra seed

The seeds didn’t seem to come in as thickly as I expected them to… I over seeded and kept everything drenched with water but it seems about 50 to 60% of the seeds grew to seedling stage. Night time temps were in lower 50’s and daytime highs in lower 70’s . Not really stoked but no comparison to other products or if this is normal for this type of seed.
