Questions & Answers

Has anyone else had issues with caulk not sticking to the surround??

I read a question asked on this tub surround that says a person had issues with getting caulk to stick to the surround along the bottom of the surround where it meets the tub. Seems weird to me. How else would you get it to seal of caulk doesnt hold? The person states they used dap 3.0 and in my opinion thats the best caulk I’ve ever used for tub caulking. All others I’ve had issues with. Dap 3.0 sets up quick and last along time.

I had to use a white roof caulking that is not available in box stores. It is used to stop leaks while roof is wet. It has to be applied from gun in one smooth motion though as you can not try to smooth it after! I tried everything else and none of it sticks to this surround!!! It may look good but you can pull it right off which means its not sealing.

Can this material be trimmed?

I have an odd sized tub (30" wide X 54" long) and it is almost impossible to find an item that size. Can it be trimmed down t fit the tub? If so, what is used to trim the material?

Best way to trim is with a good pair of tin snips,

What caulk will work with this tub surround

I purchased this tub surround 4 years ago. There is not a caulk out there that I can get to stick for more than a few months. I have used tub and tile caulk of many kinds and find that it only peals after a few months. Silicone same story. ..nothing sticks and I'm getting frustrated. ..and yes I have properly cleaned all the old caulk and or silicone before re caulking. Nothing works
Asked by: Miked
Same here, I've recaulked the surround 3 times with dap 3.0, which is supposed to work, but it just peels after a few months. This is after meticulous cleaning with acetone and light sanding, the dap 3.0 will still pull away from the surround, even in places that should receive zero stretch, such as the vertical seams. Very frustrating.

What is the best way to cut the wall units?

Asked by: john
You will regret using a jigsaw. Best option. Is to use a pair of tin snips and carefully cut. Can also be scored and cut with knife but is slower

DELTA FAUCET CO. Sturdifit 32 in. x 60 in. x 58 in. 5-Piece Easy Up Adhesive Tub Wall in White is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 75.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value I installed this surround over a day, and then caulked the seams the next day. I used Loctite Tub Surround, which stuck great and will hopefully stay that way. Seams were sealed with Dap 3.0 kitchen and bath because I read that was the only caulk that sticks to this plastic. Although harder to work with (requires liberal use of mineral spirits for tooling and sets up rapidly) it seems to be sticking quite well and should be durable. Installation was relatively easy, I took my time because my walls were not square. Panels seem thicker and more substantial than similar priced units. I don't like how the seams are designed because they allow some movement if pressed on, which over time could make the caulking fail. It's not a huge deal, but if I were to do it again I might put some compressible weather or stripping or something in there to reduce the flex. All in all I'm quite happy with the end product and I think it looks as good as a 5 piece surround can look.

I used gorilla constr adhesive per feedback on HD website. The 3 flat pieces went in no problem - gorilla adhesive works great. Be aware of the corner pieces going in though. first corner came off twice due to memory in thickness of corner piece that wasn't a perfect 90 degree corner. Called a pro in and he suggested i needed to build up a brace system to "hold the corner in" for 24 hours. So $40 of 2x2's later and some old plywood made the brace. See pics below.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very glossy, look great as a tub wall upgrade or replacement, but needs trim Really good looking walls with nice shelving though a bit narrow. These replaced some very old, dirty plastic walls and these new ones are a much thicker and nicer looking quality. The only problem is that you really should purchase some plastic trim for the walls as they look very unfinished and sharp otherwise. I used a rounded plastic thin white trim which made the walls look so much better at the end. Also the trim covered the last bit of walls that needed covering when my plumber removed the old walls. The walls needed a bit more acrylic than the box recommended (one more tub should do it) and the top edges left ledges which would have collected water. The trim helped reduce that (see photo for trim around top and sides that was purchased separately and added). Walls are so glossy, they act as mirrors almost and make it look super clean and bright in the tub area which I liked a lot. I was also able to install grab bars on top without cracking, dents or tears. The glossiness though does show water spots so using a squeegee after use helps prevent that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, great value, need to use right caulk Bought for guest bathroom, easy to install with construction adhesive. Nice thick panels. Edges of panels are a bit rough. I agree with other reviewers that an included trim kit would have been nice. Instructions recommend 100% silicone caulk to seal joints between tub wall and tub. However, 100% silicone caulk doesn't stick but instead peels cleanly off the joints even weeks later. Wrote to manufacturer customer support and they replied, " "Unfortunately we do not recommend any particular brand of caulk. We would only recommend using an Advanced Kitchen and Bath Polymer sealant. We have discovered that neither the acrylic/silicone blend or the 100% silicone work as well." I tried DAP 3.0 Kitchen Bath and Plumbing High Performance Sealant, and it works great. It's not silicone, but instead a low odor polymer sealant. Aside from the adventure with caulking (and re-caulking), recommend this product.

Poor instructions, scratches easily, and is not easy to install if you have to modify them at all. The instructions incorrectly tell you that the panels can be cut with a box cutter. they cannot, you will need a saw. The instructions also fail to tell you to keep the panel off of the tub or it will squeak. I had everything up and then ha to take it all down and start with a new surround as a result of this.

I sprayed great stuff into the hollow areas behind the corner panels (soap holders) to help with rigidity and sound reduction (hollow sound when water showers on it). Worked like a charm. Sprayed great stuff waited a day until dry trimmed it flush with the back. Made the panel very solid and when installed felt a lot stronger. Caution! Adhesive is an issue! I used Loctite. I had to repair the wall behind one of the panels and taped and floated it out prior to installation. Adhesive did not adhere well to the repaired wall. Stuck like gang busters to the fresh blue water and mold resistant sheetrock on the back and opposite side panel but the floated panel was a big problem. Had to prime the floated wall first before applying the panel. Lesson learned very good prep of the surface before installing. I was able to trim the center panel 6 inches so this produce could work in a 54 inch tub as found in mobile homes.

I really like the thickness of the panels compared to the less expensive models. Unfortunately if the panels don't sit in the box just right, they will warp. This is the second one I've installed and both had a warped panel. Gluing and taping the seams does not work. Plan on doing extra bracing after gluing in order to get the panels to stay in place.

When you place the corners, make sure the flat pieces are cut back at least an half inch from where the corners ride on top of the flats so that the corners can be glued to the wall more easily.
