Answer

Hello, Kathy; I can see why you would have questions about the sizing of your shades. Home Depot doesn't exactly show you where to go on the website to fill in your measurements. However, they do trim your shades to your specifications, as the HD website says " Custom fit to your window by ordering in 1/2 in. width increments from 55.25 in. up to 73.25 in. measuring tip to tip." so that indicates that they will cut the shades to your measurements. I hope you can see better how to order a custom size once you are logged in and actually place your order. Good luck!

Asked by KC September 29, 2020

Answer

I only had about 1 1/2 inches and had to top mount the brackets. That meant I only could use 1 screw but the shade is not heavy and the mounting works just fine.

How to fix tension

Asked by KB June 12, 2020

Answer

Take the roll off the window. Wrap the entire length onto the roller, and secure with hands or rubber bands (anything that will keep the shade from unraveling). Then find the flat end, and twist it ONCE until it clicks or catches (not too tight) -- "too tight" will break the roller. Place the roll back onto the window. Undo the shade so that it unravels and looks as it normally would ... then tug gently on the bottom of the shade to see if the tension improved. If the tension is still "slack" ... repeat. Remember that "too tight" is not good -- it will break the roller -- one or two turns should be enough. Good luck!

My windows are only 22 inches wide. Can these be cut to fit that width?

Asked by giggles June 16, 2020

Answer

Hello, Giggles; well there's nothing funny about ordering blinds, but in your case, you're in luck! The HD website says this: Easily block excessive sunlight and ensure privacy with the StyleWell blackout roller shade made of durable 12 mil vinyl. Lift speed adjusts easily, stopping when fully retracted or at a pre-set height. Custom fit to your window by ordering in 1/2 in. width increments from 20.75 in. up to 37.25 in. measuring tip to tip. So! I think you will be able to have this trimmed to just the right size! I really like mine, so I hope you'll enjoy yours! Good luck!

Can you cut this blind to fit a 71 inch window?

Asked by JG August 6, 2020

Answer

You can’t cut. You might be able to get some room from the brackets (if anchored from the inside frame). Worst case you might have to add a shim to cover you gap.

These shades were more expensive then similar ones. Save your money DO NOT BUY THESE! The hardware mounting brackets are so big, they leave gaps on the sides between the shade and the window sides letting light through. I'm debating on taking these down and returning them to home depot Tony

The blinds work well blackout wise, but after buying 5 blinds we found many problems with the manufacturing quality. The end (pin) you pull out to cut desired length has another piece that prevents the pin from being pushed in, but when you take the side out you may find this part comes off and you will hopefully find it in the tubing other wise you have to go back to the store and have the employees cut another or they go looking through the trash for a pice the size of a dime. The other problem we had was that more than half of the blinds had NO TENSION and the instructions are difficult to follow. So we took it into our own hands and finally figured out how to adjust the tension with out using the dificult part of the bracket WE USED A HEX WRENCH TO AJUST THE INNER MECHANISM AND TO PREVENT IT FROM UNROLLING STOP(RACH) THE H-WRINCH LIKE YOU WOULD THE BLIND MID WINDOW. Finally the new blinds don't cut well with the old cutting tool, the store needs a new and stronger machine.

Blackout blinds are very tricky, do they n fact cover the entire window opening when the neighbor forgets and leaves his outdoor spotlight shining in your bedroom window? The stylewell works moderately well but leaves gaps that need to be taped down. Ideally, the sides would fit in a secure track. This shade does not but works moderately well. The manufacture is great, well cut and roll retracts very well. The mounting hardware is better than good. Heavy duty and easy to install. Heavy duty plastic bottom strip adds weight allowing the shade to always hang and not change shape. Recommend for simple install

The STYLEWELL WHITE BLACKOUT CORDLESS ROLLER SHADE 37.25 IN. W X 78 IN. L is a nice product. The fabric is a good weight and the color and texture are attractive. The included brackets are very nice and install easily using the included screws. The roller functions (pulls down and retracts) as you would expect it to. The blackout fabric does a good job to darken the room.

(What's this)
Ivory roller shade 55 1/4 x 78 in. I thought this would be a great shade for one of our kitchen windows. The afternoon sun is blinding at certain times of the year, so a blackout shade sounded like a great idea. Many, many years ago, when I was a kid, we had pull down window shades in our house. I remember the round fabric pull with a string cord at the bottom of the shade. I also remember pulling down, then letting it go and watching it roll up by itself - sometimes very fast! I also remember getting in trouble, because the shade got stuck in the roller! Pros: 1. The color is pleasant. I took a picture of a close up during the day (nice warm color). 2. The shade has a roller, which brings me back to my childhood. 3. It's a long shade. Our window isn't that long, but it's nice to know that I could use this on a much longer window. 4. The kit comes complete - no extra hardware is needed. 5. There is a nice texture to the material. Cons: 1. This isn't the same material as the 1960's shades. 2. It isn't a black out shade. It blocks light, but if someone wanted it to be dark enough to sleep, this wouldn't do. 3. It has a lightweight feel to it. I anticipated it to be much sturdier 4. The edges curl - this is a problem for me. Our new window shade is okay. I hope that the edges flatten out with time. I took a picture of the curvature - the picture didn't come out great, but you can see the curling. It does what it's suppose to do, which is to shade the window when the sun hits. We're not in the right time of year for the bright sun coming into the kitchen, so I can't comment on if it'll stop the sun. My guess is that it will, but some light will come in. Maybe a better description would be light filtering vs blackout. Or maybe one of the darker colored shades would be a true blackout. I do recommend this shade, with one comment. If you're looking for a high end shade, this isn't the one to buy. If you're looking for a warm color roller shade, this one will do the trick.

Ok, I am that idiot... I ripped open the box and pulled out the blind and set aside. Then had to do something else and so I threw out the box. The mounting hardware is in the very bottom of the box... So I couldn’t use it as a blind BUT it does great as a projection screen! It is consistently white, without color variation to affect the picture. It is fully opaque so all the light gets reflected back. As Rob Ross would say, it’s a happy little accident! You can see the one picture where I took a shot of the bright sunlight and it really does block it out.

(What's this)
I am very disappointed with this roller shade. First off the little things. The material looks cheap. Once I had it installed, I immediately noticed it. Also, the mounting screws are pretty short in my opinion. They are 1 inch long. After the 1/8 inch of mounting bracket and 1/2 inch of drywall, you are left with 3/8 inch of screw to hold into the stud. If you have a stud in that location. It comes with no wall anchors, not a deal breaker but not great. So the big problem with this shade is that I could not get it to roll back up once pulled down. No matter how I fussed with the adjustments it would not operate properly. It would either pull down and refuse to roll back up, or it would roll back up and continue spinning once up. After having to manually re-roll the shade 5 or 6 times, the mounting pin that protrudes from the right end of the shade receded into the shade body and it was no longer possible to even put the shade into the bracket. The low price may be tempting, but I would stay away from this one.

I just installed the Stylewell cordless roller shade and it looks and works very well. I have the cream/ivory color and it comes in several colors to match your décor. It's a blackout shade so it really cuts out unwanted light. The install was fairly simple and the instructions are plain on how to install it either outside or inside the window casing. I like the spring tension system way better than the string style.

(What's this)
This Stylewell roller, blackout shade comes in several colors and is completely cordless which is a great feature. The string cords are always in the way on string operated shades. It is made out of an attractive polyester material designed to handle long term use and looks like linen on the front side. It is very east to operate up and down and stays in place. Automatically rolls up when you chose to put it up. The fabric blocks all light and also adds thermal heat and cold protection. All installation hardware is included and it is very easy to install. It does not come with a valence. It can be ordered custom cut or the directions say to take it to the store for sizing. However, I went to four Home Depot stores in my area and called several more and no one knew how to size it. Other than that, it was issue free. I used the shade to separate a hall between bedroom area and living room in a guest house until I can get it custom cut for a window. It operates easily, looks great and very easy to install.

(What's this)
Even though we live in the middle of several acres of property, my wife always feels like someone will look through our windows. We currently have some sheer curtains over our bedroom window but she wanted something that could stop someone from looking in as well as providing darkness in the morning when the sun comes up. She also wanted something we could hide behind our existing curtains. We decided to get these StyleWell Beige Blackout Fabric Roller Shade 73.25 in. W x 72 in. L because they seemed to fit her requirements. We decided to mount the shade above the window opening and behind the existing curtain rod so it is actually completely hidden when not in use. Installation is a simple matter of mounting the brackets and hanging the shade on them (obviously making sure the shade is level). Fortunately the location we chose allowed the brackets to go into a stud but if it didn’t, we would have had to use wall anchors which are not included in the kit. Once I installed the brackets, I hung the shade and initially it worked fine. I had to take the shade back off and after that, it would no longer retract. It took a few minutes to figure out how to make it retract again and after that, it worked fine. I found the instructions to be a little confusing but nothing too bad. I don’t find this shade to be particularly nice looking so I’m glad we have it hidden behind the other curtains. The way we have the shade mounted has some gaps with the window opening but it still blocks a large amount of light from coming in. This shade worked out well for our purposes and I would recommend it.
