AnswerHello, it's hard to say because we don't know the type of dog and how he tears this up (whether with paws or with their mouth), nor do we know the quality of the previous rug you have as Pet Proof may simply mean that it has higher resilience to pet urine/droppings - generally meant for outdoor but once again we're not sure of the SKU or the product that you previously owned. This particular rug is not certified as pet proof or outdoor. The StyleWell construction is slightly less expensive than the Spiral Medallion we make under the heavier Home Decorators collection: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Spiral-Medallion-Ivory-Brown-5-ft-x-7-ft-Area-Rug-25315/206728941 Either quality are resilient in general but once again we don't know the factors outlined above. From a cat owner's perspective, the yarn does not come out when a cat claws or sharpens the claws on the rug. Although in heavier qualities it may occur as all depends on the weave of the rug as light rugs or heavy rugs can be woven in various ways. Perhaps a solution is to teach the dog from tearing up the rug by placing food or treat on the rug so they'll know it's not a play area.

Beautiful, well priced rug that feels good under foot. We just got shades of gray laminate flooring from HD to put down but with the C19 our lives are upside down so this rug is just on top of the old floor for now. It is a little over 1/2 inch thick and has a non skid backing which will be perfect with the new flooring once installed. The variation of neutral grays and creams make for a dimensional look and visually interesting pattern. It is a densely tufted rug that is also stain resistant and easily cleans if a spill occurs. Mine did not have a strong chemical smell and flatten out quickly once spread out on the floor. Perfect.
