Product Overview

The Sumner Pecan tree is an excellent choice for a home orchard. It has a relatively large nut of good quality with a paper-thin shell that are easy to crack. It is noted for its high leaf disease resistance and is a favorite among commercial growers. The tree is also visually appealing with its upright growth and semi-open canopy. It is a Type-2 pollinator and should be pollinated with a Type-1 pecan tree (we recommend Cape Fear or Desirable). It is hardy in Zones 6-9 and should be planted in full sun or partial shade. The soil should be deep, moist, and well-drained. The plant is shipped in a #5 pot with a minimum height of 24 inches.

The tree was well packaged and arrived in good condition for planting. No visible signes of stress, healthy leaves, rich soil. If this tree dies, it's my fault.

For a bare root tree it did very well. Sturdy. I did soak the roots the first few days with vitamin b1 to prevent shock. And I used a solution of one tsp to a gallon of water each week until the leaves sprouted and looked sturdy. They usually grow where humidity is high so I compensate by watering every afternoon and spraying the trunk and leaves. When the tree is bigger, maybe next spring, I can water every night and not worry about the leaves as much. :) everybody should have one. Or two. :)
