Dear Jon, Thank you for contacting Snow Joe + Sun Joe. We do not recommend to use the Sun Joe SBJ801E-SJG 3-in-1 Electric Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher | Max 130 MPH | 13.5-Amp | Walk Behind unit on a clamshell driveway as it will blow and pick up clamshells when operating it.

After using it for the first time, the seam at the top of the bag broke after just 15 minutes of use - blowing all the mulched leaves back onto the lawn. Needless to say, I'm not going to recommend this one to you. However, I will give you my pros and cons based on the whole 15 minutes I was able to use it. PROS: - It mulches very well. All of the leaves I was able to suck up were chopped up into fine pieces. - Emptying the bag is pretty easy. Just unzip the bottom and dump them out. - It's a compact size so it can be stored easily. CONS: - Unless you have a tiny yard, you'll need to go out and get a very long extension cord in order to be able to use it. I ended up having to run a 50' extension cord out my kitchen window in order to reach the area with the leaves because it's not close enough to my outdoor outlet. They really need to get on board with battery operated products. - The blower doesn't blow anything. I only tried blowing dry leaves and got nowhere so I can imagine it's not going to be much help with wet or compact leaves. - It's difficult to maneuver over uneven grass when pushing forward. You basically have to move it around your yard by pulling it, even when sucking up the leaves. - It didn't save me any more time that it would if I had used my lawn mower. I found that I had to do a couple of passes in order to pick everything up. - The seam on the top of the bag broke open while I was sucking up some leaves - sending all the mulched pieces back onto the lawn and defeating the whole purpose. Bottom line, don't waste your money. Either rake them or suck them up with your mower if you have a mulching feature.

Cleaned up my large deep pile of leaves. Problem: blew a lot of dust probably because the leaves were from over the winter.

(What's this)
This is one of those products that sounded too good to be true... and was. I spend probably 20 hours raking every fall, and I was hoping this product would cut down on that time. But there were just too many drawbacks to make it even worth using. Here were the problems I found: (1) It feels pretty cheap, and even the on-off switch is a bit hard to operate. (2) It's incredibly loud, like running a vacuum and a lawnmower at the same time. (3) The only thing it successfully picked up were average-sized dry leaves. It could not pick up pine needles, grass, large leaves, or anything wet. (4) while it does compress leaves, it's nowhere near the 10:1 ratio suggested in the description. It's more like 3:1. (5) the blower function is a complete gimmick. It won't blow mulched material back out reliably, and it's not even a very effective leafblower. (6) It basically doesn't work when pushed forward, as it catches on the material below and just pushes it along on the ground. Keep in mind that It's not cordless, and doesn't actually have an extension cord at all, just a 6" stub cord, so it cannot even be used out of the box. You must have your own extension cord. I have a large lawn, and after testing this out, I decided it wouldn't be worth buying the 150-foot extension cord I'd need to actually use this throughout my yard. Overall, I was really hoping for more from this product, and I do not recommend it unless you have a small lawn and only have moderately-sized dry deciduous leaves and nothing else.

(What's this)
I had a sidewalk 2 inches deep in leaves. Had been putting cleaning them up because it would take at least 2 wheelbarrows full to get all of them to the mulch bin. Because the leaves were so deep, the intake clogged up twice and had to be swept clear. I don't consider that a problem of the machine, just me trying to get it done too fast. I unloaded the collector bag twice, but then as I said it that amount of leaves would have filled 2 wheelbarrows. The leaves were chopped up into small pieces and took up very little room in the mulch bin and will compost quickly. The bad part is that it threw dust (see pics) everywhere; on the machine and on me. Wear dust mask! Another bad part; leaves were full of baby spiders and I got many spider bites.

Not for pine straw. If you don’t have pine needles in your yard, this lawn vacuum works great. Otherwise it mostly ignores pine needles either on the grass or hard surfaces, leaving most behind even with multiple passes. Typical deciduous leaves and other debris including paper, twigs, acorns, and even small clumps of Spanish moss are dealt with well. The impeller mulches very efficiently, greatly reducing the volume of debris....good thing because the leaf bag is only the size of a small backpack. The bag though opens wide and is easy to empty. The vacuum itself is modeled after a typical indoor vacuum and works much like one. You will find yourself holding the cord out of the way with one hand while pushing and pulling the machine with the other just like you are vacuuming carpet. It seems to do better while pulling. It can get caught when pushing forward so use a slight backward tilt when advancing. It is not overly loud and does not produce much dust (but will depend on what you’re sucking up). The suction is not strong enough to pull debris out of crevices including deep lawn edges and performs poorly on hard surfaces, The blowing function is almost pointless. It will blow minimal debris away and is far too weak to provide any significant clearing; you’ll be best served using a standard blower than this one. The handle neatly folds all the way down for storage and the machine is easy to wipe down for cleaning. All in all a great product to clean up leaves from your lawn; look elsewhere if you have mostly pine straw.

Performs perfectly!!! This is by far one of the best products I've owned manufactured by Sun Joe. This has all the bells and whistles one could ask for, and more. Their description is right on, and totally accurate. I did not have to rake up anything, I just went after it with the vacuum, and it sucked it all up, and did, indeed, mulch it on a 10:1 reduction basis. I was shocked at how little there was to dump out of the bag when my cleaning wad done. Then I switched it to the blower mode, and blew away what little was left of the yard debris. It even cleared out cobwebs that I didn't know were there. The blower motor on the unit is so powerful, it was literally blowing away my heavy rubber welcome mats out front. Details indicate that it has a top wind speed of 130 mph....sounds like a hurricane speed to me. I live that the bag zips all the way across from side to side, and along the bottom. It is also lightweight at about 14 pounds, so this 70 year old user had no problem lifting it up to return it to storage. My only recommendation would be for Sun Joe to include a storage bag similar to a BBQ grill cover for this awesome machine. Arizona is very dusty year round, no matter where I store my unit. I also want to give kudos for the wonderful SAFETY GLASSES that were included in the bottom of the box. I did not get a single speck of dust or debris in my eyes, and the temples are even adjustable. I'd never seen that feature before. Best of all, this is a quality product, and they did not spare any attention to detail. I examined it top to bottom, then turned it upside down, just to view all the features prior to use. The fact that the handle is also adjustable is a great feature, as it extends an extra 5" if needed. It also folds ALL the way back down for storage. I felt totally safe the entire time using this equipment. I also love that the on/off switch is covered, and protected from any dust or moisture. One of the best products I've used in years. The instruction booklet was also one of the best written I've ever read. No detail was spared. Thank you Sun Joe, and Home Depot. I love quality merchandise.

Very disapointed
Customer review from snowjoe.com logo
Unit has too small a bag to be practical. Also, poor vacuum power when compared to my other similar vacuum the Yardworks vacuum which unfortunately is no longer being manufactured. Also, Sun Joe impeller is nylon and not metal like the Yardworks.

The price was not to bad for an outdoor vacuum.
Customer review from snowjoe.com logo
The best part of the vacuum is the convenience of the removable collection bag and ease of dumping the contents. Suction is good on small leafs and debris.
