Read Reviews and Instructions First
After reading the range of ratings comments and the user manual, I found using the Sun Joe 15 Amp 1.6 in. Cutting Diameter Electric Wood Chipper to be easy and perfect for my purpose. It is very important to have the right expectations of this machine, the right power cord, and the right safety equipment, especially ear protection. So far it has "devoured" a stick pile about 3 ft. high, producing an appropriately chunky mulch for our grandkids' Ninja play area. What seems to work for me is using sticks, primarily dead branches, up to about 1"+ in diameter, no leaves, and cutting small batches then letting the motor cool while prepping the next pile, and guiding sticks in vertically, bunching thin twigs together. Avoid sticks with angles as they are more likely to hang or get wedged sideways in the chute.

Wood Chipper
This small electric chipper exceeded my expectations. I had two huge mounds of small branches that I needed to chip. I will include a picture of the number of branches I had to do. This item is well worth it. I thought I would burn out the motor, but it just kept on going. I will use it again next year.

More powerful than expected
Recently moved to central coastal California with a yard that was very overgrown with trees and bushes. Have used this electric 5 Amp 1.6 in. Chipper/Shredder by Sun Joe and it has handled just about everything I have put in it-primarily oak and Hopseed branches < 1 " thick. The thicker pieces I just cut up with my chainsaw and put in my green waste container. Even trust my wife to use it since it does not give the branch rattle and tug like the more powerful gas models where I have jammed my hand and thumb in the past. Impressively quiet. The only disadvantage is that some small soft branches do not get cut rather mashed and stay in one piece and can tangle and jam the underside plastic hopper. Very good for what it does and what it costs.

No spare parts at all!
The chipper itself worked fine until it didn't.
The 'input' tunnel split apart - cheap thin flimsy plastic.
Without this part the device is useless.
There is no way to get the spare part.
And that's a huge problem. If you are fine with he unit working during just warranty period - I guess that's fine. Anything after that - if any part of it breaks it becomes just a useless piece of garbage to fill up the landfill.

Defective product
This product was delivered in a very beat up box (barely still a box). There were signs that it had been previously returned by another customer. Unfortunately, the product could not be properly/safely assembled due to a defect in assembly. This should not have been resold after its initial return.

Just right little chipper
I have had my Sun Joe 15 amp chipper for several weeks now and it has turned many piles of small branches, mostly oak, to mulch. It took 18 minutes of leisurely feeding branches into the chipper to turn this trailer load into a bucket of chips that is now mulching my persimmon tree. I like that it self feeds, once you get a branch going, for the most part it will chew it into the machine without a lot of pushing. Caution, it is NOT a leaf shredder. Leaves and weeds just go right through.

Bamboo Killer
I purchased this to shred bamboo. It does a good job taking it from a 20 foot tall to a partially connected mush. It won’t completely chip it because bamboo is so stringy but very happy with its performance.

Excellent value
This is a great little machine. It does much better than expected for the price. It is lightweight and easy to move around. It is very easy to operate. I am extremely pleased with the purchase. I have used it for 3 days for several hours. It is simple and easy to assemble, however, note that the instructions say to assemble the wheels onto the bars first, however, you must attach the bars to the base of the unit before attaching the wheels. I had to take them back apart after assembly because there was no way to attach the bars while the wheels were on. Unless it was just a flaw in our unit, you must force the bars into place to attach them, and afterward attach the wheels.

Perfect for my small urban homestead!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This woodchipper is perfect for my little urban container garden. The woodchipper is super quiet when it runs and is able to chomp through the garden waste material at an impressive rate! I've also been happily surprised at the diameter of the branches it will get through! I haven't had to use the reverse button once yet :D This machine is a great value for any gardener!
