Good, solid inexpensive reel mower for smaller lawns, especially bermudagrass lawns. If the lawn is not very level, will get some scalping, so need to be careful about pacing and which direction you mow. I would ask that Sunjoe incorporate a plastic "roller" (4" diameter or so, 22" in length) in the front instead of wheels...this might help with scalping issues. Would like to see a battery model, too. Overall, a very good product for the price! Could be great with a roller in front and/or a battery model.

I tried to install the bolts for the handle which are too short. I already knew this would be a problem, however beyond this unfixed, known problem, the internal nut was completely missing on the one side, ie nothing to screw the too short bolt to at all. I had to return it, it took 10 days to get to me to begin with, so now I will be waiting a total of 20 days. Hopefully this next mower has all 4 nuts and bolts... Sun Joe, come on... 4 nuts and bolts!!! Get it right already!!! Its all over the internet that this mower has problems with parts. By the way, while you are potentially (or probably) returning this mower, you can pick up some M8 bolts that you will need to finish the handle install. Good luck!!!

16 in. 6.5 amp corded electric walk-behind reel push lawn mower is delivered in original product package and is in good condition. The assemble was easy. Just follow the manual. The size of this product impressed me much more. The 5 manual height adjustment increase the quality of work. Also use the less amp power. And the attached bag collect the cutting grass, so no extra work. I love it with feature.

This mower is small and compact and makes very little noise since it is electric. It has multiple height adjustments. On the lowest setting you have to rock it backwards to give the rotor time to spin up before it will cut grass otherwise it will just sound like it's trying but not actually spin. Raising the height of the cutting deck helps solve this problem. The unit could use some larger back wheels, I found that I had a hard time navigating the yard with the small wheels. The cutting deck is narrow and lots of overlap is needed to make sure you get proper cutting. I found that maybe it's narrow cutting width or the unevenness of my lawn, I could not get a perfect cut. The lawn mower seemed to leave patches which I had to go back and recut in a different direction to help get an even cut. I ended up having to use a criss cross pattern to hit areas twice to ensure a smooth level cut. It looks like the unevenness of the yard caused the mower to tilt enough to leave high spots. The electric mower makes it easy to start/stop but having the cord banging around between your legs gets annoying. The clip to hold it to the mower broke instantly. I found it easiest if I threw the cord over my shoulder to keep it from tripping me. The bag is small and requires frequent emptying. It would be nice if it came with a mulching attachment instead of having to bag all that grass.

Great little mower. Just what the small lawns of the drought era needs. Fold down handle makes it easy to store. It sounds like a electric weed eater when it's running. Does a good job cutting grass. Grass catcher is easy on and off. The pins go into the slots that are under the protective door, and it rests on the mower. Lift door and lift catcher out by the handle to empty.

It was a little tricky putting the mower together because I didn’t find the instructions or diagrams in the manual very clear. Adjusting the mowing height is really easy because you just move one lever. Unfortunately you can’t set the mowing height above 2.6” and I normally cut mine to at least 3”. It does have a bag in case you want to collect your grass clippings. I don’t ever do that but it is an option if you want to. Otherwise a flap goes down over where the bag fits on. Because this is a corded electric mower there is no engine or large battery and because it is a reel mower it doesn’t have to provide for the large circular area the blade rotates. These things make it is very lightweight and compact, so it is easy to move around and to store. It has quick release toggles on the handle so if you fold the top of the handle down it only takes up an area of 22” by 28”. I weighed it and it was only 30.2 pounds. If you had a strong hook you could hang it up by its handle in the garage. The reel is actually made out of hard plastic with individual blades attached to it. On the box it shows that you can replace the individual blades that are around the reel if you had to. They are very sharp and I’m sure it would take a while before they would get blunt unless you were mowing over rocks. This is easier than having to sharpen a reel that is just one piece. And because it is plastic it won’t rust. This is a very interesting looking mower and it cuts grass well.

This review is for the Sun Joy Electric Reel Lawn Mower, Model # MJ506E. Out of the box, this mower is fairly easy to assemble, though there are parts to put on that are not shown, nor mentioned, in the instructions sheet. But if you're creative, you'll figure it out. This is a small and light lawn mower definitely designed for smaller city lawns versus the 5 acre lawns of deep grass. It will not handle that, but for a small lawn that is maintained so the grass doesn't get to high, this is good for that. Reel mowers really aren't that common because they can get very expensive very fast. So it was unusual to find that cutting configuration in a mower at this price point. It took me about 20 minutes to put this mower together and I had a small 550 square foot Phoenix lawn just ready and waiting to be cut. The cutting swath is smaller than I am used to with my bigger mower, but it does a good job. I wasn't sure where the cutting height would cut at. I ended up leaving it all the way up on high which left a normal height of grass that I like in a hotter climate. I think on the low setting for this mower, you better be cutting grass on the putting green of a golf course as it would be really short. But some people like it that way, and for that, it would work great. As I've said, this is a small mower meant for small lawns. Because of that and the frame size, the catcher basket is small and quickly fills which will require you to dump the basket more often. But with a smaller plastic body, light frame and smaller catcher basket and narrower swath, it does make for a lighter mower that is easy to handle and maneuver, nice for someone who doesn't want to work with that behemoth steel lawn mower taking up a parking space in your garage. For what it is and what it's designed for, it's a good little mower. But if you have acreage covered with hearty grass and tough roots, I recommend you move up to something heavier, and more expensive, to do that job.

Don't buy this mower!!! Can't get replacement blades! Very disappointed, wish I could get my money back!!

The nice thing is that I don’t have to worry about the batteries going bad or totally discharge.

I bought this mower just over 2 years ago and have enjoyed it. However, there is literally no way to buy replacement blades. I have not been able to buy them and they have never been in stock.
