I hate to leave bad product reviews, but this time I feel like I have no choice. This product is junk. No other way to put it. Mine was brand new, straight out of the box today, 8/21/18 and was too dull to make a clean cut through any of my bushes or shrubs. Mostly it just feebly saws away at the ends of branches, pushes them around a little and strips away the leaves. The end result looks like a 4 year old gave his brother a haircut using safety scissors. Branches are stripped and partially snapped away, but very few are gotten cleanly. My 10 year old 2.5 amp Homelite cut better than this. Ironically, it does moderately well on thicker, tougher branches. It's not lacking for power and can muscle its way through rigid, bark-covered branches. It's the softer, leafier outer branches where this fails utterly as it's too dull to get through and mostly winds up just nicking the branch as it pushes it out of the way, uncut. I might as well be trying to trim my bushes with a butter knife. AVOID. MANY places, including Home Depot, list this product as having stainless steel blades. The one I got today DID NOT. I can't state that emphatically enough, it's listed right on the box that the blades are "rust-resistant forged iron", NOT STAINLESS. And maybe that's why the performance is so bad. I suspect that possibly Sun Joe changed the blades from stainless to iron to make the product cheaper and in the process ruined it.

Strong and Sturdy, cuts easily
These are great hedgers. I started using them on my forsythias and it was effortless! Even the thicker branches cut fine! I appreciate the safety on them too. You have to basically have two hands on them at any given moment during use; one on the top bar, and one on the handle trigger. I personally like this because it lessens the chances of an accident happening (if you were to use one hand). Also, it's a pretty lightweight hedger, so your arms won't tire as quickly. The protective case it nice too; keeping the hedger and you safe during storage!

Must Hold down two triggers to run - Cord Not Included
It costs a fortune to have someone cut hedges. I have box woods that really needed a haircut, but I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get a nice level cut. I tried out this hedge trimmer since it was affordable. Here are some things I noticed as a new owner of a trimmer that you may find useful to know as well: HOLDING DOWN LEVER & TRIGGER TO RUN Like many electric trimmers nowadays, you must hold down the built in safety lever while pulling the trigger to run the trimmer. Some people might find this uncomfortable holding down both after awhile. There is no auto-on button, but as far as I could tell trying out other models, this seems pretty standard nowadays. NO CORD INCLUDED - USES 16 GAUGE The tool comes with no cord at all, to run this, you must provide your own extension cord. This is also standard among all trimmers. Luckily this particular tool uses the standard 16 gauge extension cord everyone has laying around. Some other brands require 14 or 12 gauge. You should probably use 14 gauge if you are going to need 100 feet or so of cord through. CUTS 1/2 INCH BRANCHES I would really only use this to cut branches up to 1/2 inch. Its going to really struggle with anything more than that. The engine is 3.5 amp which was slightly smaller than other models I tried, but i didn't notice any power difference with the smaller engine. This 3.5 amp might just run more efficiently than the others. NICE CUT!! LIGHT WEIGHT! EASY TO USE! I was able to get a nice professional looking cut even my first time trying. It only weighs 5 lbs. Since it is electric, you don't have to worry about charging or using oil or gas. It is extremely easy to start. The trimmer is 97 decibels so about the same as a standard lawn mower.

No Need to Hedge Your Bets ...
Sun Joe's 22" Electric Hedge Trimmer is a great product. Nicely balanced for comfortable use (it weighs only 5 pounds!), this trimmer is much nicer and lighter than my old one, and--most importantly--it cuts through leaves, twigs, and small branches with ease. I like that the safety is located on the front handle while the trigger is located on the back handle, meaning that both of my hands have to be in place on the machine before I can operate it. This removes any chance of me accidentally powering the thing up before I have complete control over it. I also like that the back handle has a built-in power-cord hook to help hold the cord in place so there are no unexpected disconnects while working. One word of caution: You should definitely wear hearing protection while using the "Hedger Joe" because it's quite loud.

Great Power
This electric hedge trimmer really exceeded my expectations. It has plenty of power and didn't snag at all during the 15 minutes or so that it took to trim my hedge, even on twigs/branches that were around 1/4" thick. There is a clip to hold your power cord in place - you'll definitely want to use that. I didn't see it at first and the trimmer kept coming unplugged, but after I hooked the drop cord in, it was off to the races. The trimmer is balanced well and has a good reach. It's comfortable to hold for extended periods of time, and it functions well. If you're in the market for a hedge trimmer, you can't go wrong with this one!

The bushes now look great.
Yes I would recommend the Hedger Joe Electric Hedger Trimmer. With its 3.5 amp motor it is plenty powerful to clean up the bushes in the back yard. Light weight and easy to handle it makes yard work easy. 5 lbs light, it is great for any job. Electric so no gas or oil to add. Dual handed safety switch prevents accidental starting. Blade cover included, so that helps to keep it sharp while you store it. Quality made product and built to last.

Good trimmers with sufficient power. I was cutting arborvitae branches as described in the product specifications. I don't have anything to compare them to but as far as noise, they are loud. I would think that being electric, they would have been quieter but the given the mechanics of it, is not that surprising. I recommend using heating protection. They are nice and light.
