Asked by 37W3 August 9, 2020

I have a gravel driveway and was able to move it to the spot where I split the wood with no problems. I didn't have any issues with it moving around at all. It is pretty stable if you just get it in a flat area. One of the handles advances the log to the wedge faster than the other so I just moved both handles in unison until it started to get harder to push and pull and the used the shorter advancing handle to actually split the log in half and then released the pressure and split each half log again. A few of the logs were a little bigger than recommended but it split them, no problem.

Where is it made?

How do I purchase a manual for Sun Joe10 ton splitter

Asked by Frankie February 24, 2018

If it even came with a manual it would have been a short one. Step 1, place splitter on flat ground. Step 2, place log between wedge and jack plate. 3) turn valve clockwise to enable jack plate to move toward log. 4) use handles in a crosscountry skiing motion to split log. 5) turn valve counterclockwise to retract jack plate. Hint: stop retraction just above the point needed to fit the next log in order to save time and effort.

Asked by Kat February 11, 2018

Yes. There are two small wheels at the end of the unit where the hydraulic cylinder is. They are hard to see in the photo. They work OK but not great. The wheels work on the concrete in my garage which is where I do all my splitting. They would not work if you tried to drag it across your lawn.

Is 10 tons enough to split a hardwood like Oak?

Asked by Chaz November 8, 2017

12/27/2019 - Absolutely no without killing your back. I'm 6' 200 lbs. and by putting both hands securely on right lever arm and with all my weight and strength, I was able to split one out of four logs after using a dozen or so strokes. No way Jose was I ever going to split the logs in my pile without experiencing a hernia! So back to the store it went.

Easy to handle
This tool is very easy to use. As a woman homeowner who likes to burn wood for a fire pit it was a safer option than swinging an axe. It is heavy but not a problem because it has wheels and can easily be transported out of my she shed. Highly recommended for anyone that don’t want to use an axe.

Very safe (slow-moving), environmentally sound (no fuel), and good exercise just like regular splitting.

Exceeds expectations
This splitter isn’t going to just split wood itself. You do have to put some muscle into it, especially if you’re splitting fresh cut hard woods bigger than 8” lol. Even my 4’11” 100lb girlfriend split some fresh cut, wet 12” x 18” logs. Nice little workout. Over a 1/4 cord split in less than an hour. Only Two downsides are the wheels stability on grass. Wish they came with larger outer Wheels. And wish there were fold out arms to give better stability. Other than that, I’m super pleased thus far.

Although not recommended, it does split larger diameter logs.

Totally green wood splitter
I am very pleased with my Sun Joe woodsplitter. I am using it at my Camp and it works better than I expected. I have been splitting logs between 10 and 12 inch and it works great. No gas or oil to spill and no fumes. Totally green just like my Camp.

Works as advertised. Since the wheels are similar to a hydraulic floor jack (only useful on hard surfaces), I was pleasantly surprised to learn that wheels from an old lawn mower (3/8" shoulder bolt wheels) fit with minimal effort. The holes just needed to be tapped out a smidge for the bolt to fit easily. This was the ONLY issue I have had with this splitter, and due to its weight, it would be nice if it came with lawn-mower-style wheels, since it will not really roll on dirt or grass, but must be dragged (and weighs 87 lbs). IF you choose to modify this, PLEASE use a proper drill and technique since the bit will snag in the hole if not done properly - BE CAREFUL if doing this!

almost a perfect product!
this thing is an animal! I split a 16" log and got 8 pieces out of it. the only things i would change are, a step plate behind the hydraulic end, wider legs for less wobble and a wider cradle. other than that, perfect!

Perfect Product for Splitting my Pizza Oven Firewood Electric splitters as a general rule will not split hardwoods such as the Oak, Hickory and Pecan that I use in my brick pizza oven. They run in the $700 to $900 range. Gasoline splitters will split hardwoods, but are generally heavier and larger. They will run from $1100 to $2000. This little jewel of a splitter is in the $125 to $150 range. Is smaller, lighter and very mobile. It’s compact size allows for easy storage in the firewood bin under my oven. And finally it does a great job splitting even 8” to 10” hardwood logs. The bottom line is my oven uses a very small amount of wood per cooking, so it doesn’t take long to split the wood I use. Did I mention the bonus of good exercise and ease of operation.
