Do you have to use the floor?

I am considering this for use as a well house and all the well equipment is already on the concrete pad. If I had to I guess I could cut the middle out of the floor and just use the edge. Thoughts?
Asked by: JonT
Yes, the walls are essential. The floor installs into the floor; left door has top/bottom D-ring slide bolts, one of which is secured into the floor, the other to the front header.

does it require a permit

Asked by: chris
That varies by jurisdiction. My locality requires a permit over 120 square feet, that's a 10' x 12' shed. Contact your local permit office. This is so common a question that you can usually find it right on the county web page.

I needed something right away and this was on sale at homedepot and they had it in stock. Going together was easy, just take your time and have someone to help. It is some what flimsy, does become more sturdy when it comes together. The floor dimples easily with weight. I have two push mowers in, ladder, wheelbarrow. Nothing heavy. *I'm 250lbs and if I stand in a spot on kneel down for 30 seconds the floor will dimple. *The main door that opens is alittle warped, and does not sit flush when closed. I have a solid wood base built out of 4x4's and 2x4's, 3/4in plywood. All is pressure treated wood, very solid and leveled!! If this item is on sale for $550 or less I would say go ahead and get it. *Otherwise spend the extra money and get a craftsman resin shed. I have had my craftsman shed for 3 years. Out of the box it was felt great, the floor does not sink in, everything feels and is heavier duty. Craftman is a few hundred more and well worth it! This suncast should hold me off (I hope) until I get my garage built and able get everything in one place.

It came with broken pieces (from walmart) but also was terribly difficult to put together. We had to get a new one because we couldn't get a replacement part and I'm so glad! This one, though it took 9 hours for my husband to build, wasn't difficult to build. Lots of work, yes! But, it is well made and good quality. Just a heads up: you need a flat surface to build on. If you decide to build it on paving stones like we did, it will not be as easy to build. The first shed was impossible to build on them, so this one was much "forgiving". Also, we just built it this weekend, so i can't speak about quality too much until time passes, but so far, it's nice and sturdy and it's a great size. Also, it gets really hot in there in case you don't want that or are planning to store stuff that shouldn't get hot.

The build quality is really great, everything fits together really well with straight tight joins. What needs to be stronger metal is and what can be lighter plastic is. There are more than enough extra connectors provided. Though we felt we did better doing some of the steps differently from the instructions the instructions were simple and clear and complete enough. One not perfect aspect of the instructions is on the build step pages the hardware numbers needed are provided only, so you have to flip back and forth to the hardware index pages as you go to figure out which screws and bolts to use. It really does require 2 people for some of the steps, and what wasn't clear to me at the start is the floor is sort of flexible rubber and you really need a deck/foundation underneath that you have to bring/build yourself.

Researched like crazy to find a shed that checked all the boxes for me, and the tie-breaker was that this shed is rated for up to 65 mph winds. Being in Central Florida with hurricane potential as it is, that matters. Like many other reviewers, I cannot over-emphasize the importance of a level surface, though admittedly, getting that was not an easy process for a single woman of 58+ years. I did, however, accomplish it over the course of 4 days (it's our rainy season, so interruption was par for the course). I used 16" concrete stepping stones for the four corners and the center of the outside boards, then concrete bricks/pavers for the supports. Because of the ground movement from the rain, I put stakes around the stepping stones and pavers. I followed the directions that came with the shed for the wood foundation (downloaded the PDF manual in advance so I could purchase the materials when I bought the shed - bought all online and picked up at the store), and had Home Depot cut the pressure treated wood (perhaps had I cut them myself, I may have been more consistent with measurements/angles, but the convenience of having Home Depot do it for me was worth the variances). When it was time to put the foundation together, I worked with the slight variations of length and bend of the boards to utilize the best fit so as to square and level it to the concrete base. I researched which nails/screws to use for chemically treated wood and purchased accordingly (hot-dipped galvanized is recommended, I used 3" for the nails and each corner got a similar screw for added security). The top pieces to the foundation required two people, as did the building of the shed, so from this point forward, I had my best friend help me (and happily put him in charge of deciphering the instructions, which left a bit to be desired [hence the 4-star rating instead of 5]). In my research, I had read that a vapor barrier was recommended between the wood and the floor of the shed, so I purchased a roll of that, too (though, for the cost and quantity required, would likely not do so again for a plastic shed). After it was attached, we chose to be rebels and attach the floor before we did anything else (it was out of sequence from the instructions). It was then that I realized the importance of placing the cross bars where the instructions said to lay them out, as the lag bolts that were recommended to secure the floor to the wood foundation have holes that coincide with those cross bars. Fortunately, the thickness of the foundation top sufficed, even when the lag bolts didn't make it into the cross bars. From there, we followed the instructions, in the proper sequence, as best as we could interpret them. It took us over 6 hours to fully complete the shed and the alignment of the doors attested to the level base I made. It has rained every day since, a lot and in heavy amounts, and the shed has remained bone dry throughout. Some points to note: do not let the pieces lay in the sun very long, from the time they are removed from the box to when they are installed - they are plastic and they will warp; the gaskets are best applied to the plastic window rather than the door, and they need to be stretched while adhering so they make it all the way around; when connecting the walls to each other, it is best to have one person on the outside pushing in while the other uses the provided tool to turn the plastic connectors, otherwise, the fit is dicey at best; make sure all the "nipples" of the plastic are out of the wall panels before installation, because if they fall in while trying to connect the walls together, the panels will buckle and not secure properly; also, when the instructions say to put pressure on the outside of the roof peak while connecting it to the panels of the roof, the only way we found to humanly do that was to use a shovel and awkwardly press down (because it's not feasible to get close enough to the middle of the roof to push with hands). Overall, a well-designed product that, once properly constructed on a level surface, is sturdy and good-looking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage 1) Unit came with incorrect roof pieces (both rear). 2) The doors cannot hang even close to level and will not close, let alone lock. 3) Tried to force door shut, but the handle broke off. 4) Pain to install. Would rather jump off a bridge than rebuild this shed again. Waste of space and plastic

If you don't have a perfect flat solid foundation don't even think of using this . Instructions are horrible had to redo several steps over . A lot of small pieces especially with roof vents and skylights , why i don't know . Screws strip easily in plastic , don't even think of using power tool . Overall it looks beautiful when finished but appears not to be very sturdy . I added L brackets along floor to wall connections for extra strength plus started caulking all the joints . Also got tie down kit to anchor down better with the Florida storms we get . Only time will tell to see how it lasts , others in neighborhood told me they fly apart in heavy winds .

It took 3 people approximately 10 hours to assemble with one of them being a construction contactor. Additional tweaking needed the next day as some of the sections did not fit together tightly as they should and caulking of some of the larger openings was needed. Some of the screws/bolts were not long enough & I needed to buy some appropriate lengthy ones. Once put together & tweaked, the shed is great addition to.our property & looks really good.
