Questions & Answers

Can they be cut at the store when I buy them

Asked by: Rick
H>D. would not cut them. I suggest buying a battery skill saw, or borrow one and cut them in the parking lot yourself. It does not take much time if you are making falf or quarter cuts an a dozen or less.

Can I install this as exterior siding on my houseboat?

Asked by: Janice
I think it would be a short term solution. It may last you 10 years, or two years. Interesting concept... I think it depends on the wind your boat will endure. If it isn't windy usually, then it will last much longer. It is a thick, durable material. However, they make house boats next door at the marina. They use stuff that looks like cement siding on those houseboats. They can handle the weight because they sit on small barges.

Can I install these panels over an existing painted plywood roof deck?
Asked by: R2Art
You could install these over anything probably. Just overlap them properly and use the right screws.

26 in. x 12 ft. Foamed Polycarbonate Corrugated Roof Panel in Castle Grey is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from The panels were easy to install and easy to cut... The panels were easy to install and easy to cut but the quality of the panels is very poor. We purchased 19 of the 8’ panels and 10 of them have holes in them so we have to figure out a way to repair them or return them so was quite disappointed in them don’t know if I would purchase any more

Rated 1 out of 5 by from roof panels will not hold up I chose the $$ castle grey roof panels for the modern look. I used the reccomended fasteners on all 8 panels, and they did not hold up well to the weather. The wind ripped many of the panels away from the screw heads. I believe the material became brittle in the constant houston sun and humidity. The material was soft and flexible at first, but now its like thin potato chips. I also placed them sun side up, and they have started to fade after 1 yr in the sun. My balcony overlooks the top, and the grey panels look chalk white. Funny thing is they still have the stickers that say " this side up". The panels have cracked at most of the screw heads and leak during rain. (even though it is pitched) My advice is go with the aluminum, it may not look the best, but it will hold up and last for many years. It is also cheaper!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from attractive, very pleased We installed these panels in Jan 2006. They have held up beautifully so far. The color has not faded. We did put them up by the specs we were given about installing (more costly I believe. We had someone do the work for us.), but even in our recent 80mph winds, the panels remained secure. The only thing that is NOT satisfactory, is about 2-3 years ago, the ridge cap began to leak- cracks in it. We purchased a metal ridge cap and placed it over the top of the polycarbonate Suntop panels and so far, that works. Jan 2012

We put this on a chicken coup three years ago and it still looks new - after three years of wind, sun, rain, and Hurricane Harvey. We just bought more to make a little roof over a firewood rack.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Attractive but flimsy. I was told the panels are 4' wide, but when they were delivered, I discovered they were only 2' wide. $24 is too expensive for such narrow panels. They're very light weight and flimsy, so expect to anchor them about every 3" at the most in order to keep them from taking off like a kite on a windy day. You'll need special screws with washers by the way. They need a great deal more support underneath than any other roofing, so plan on spending extra money and time buying and installing extra lumber for that purpose. When installing the panels, don't put any of your weight on them, even with all the extra support underneath. I bought green, which looks attractive, but I wish I had gone with something different.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not hold up as well as I thought it would I installed this product in 2005 and I noticed it cracking in 2010. I patched it with caulking, but now it has more cracks. I removed the panels during the two hurricanes we had, so strong wind did not cause any damage and it is not exposed to the sun all day. I thought the product would hold up better than it has. I going to remove it and go with metal.
