Questions & Answers

Are these needed if I don't need a sealed closure? Could I instead just put screws in the low sections into the rafters below?

I just need a rain cover, not an enclosure.
Asked by: Bill
I think that they are more rigid in high winds. I have 5 cross members in the 12' length and nail securely through three high points.

Instructions never say.... should I pre-drill through these before putting screws in? Do I nail these to the rafters before attaching roof?

Asked by: Bill
Yes, Bill, always drill pilot holes for wood like this. I do not recommend "nailing" as nails may "pop" with thermal expansion and contraction over time. Also, be sure to pre-drill over-sized holes in the polycarbonate (or fiberglass) panels and use the screws with the neoprene washers, to allow the panels to expand and contract with changes in temperature..

Is the true width 24" or 26"?

The PVC panels that these would be used with are 26" wide. Is it possible that these were put online without anyone actually measuring them?
Asked by: Sisyphus
the strips are 'approximately' 24" (you may need to saw a few ends to get a good fit, so buy a few extra. The Palram, "Sun Tuff" panels are 26" to allow for 1" over-lap on each side. The foam closure strips are more tolerant of variations, but may not hold up as well over time. (I have built 5 solar powered space heaters using these strips. I tried the foam closure strips and found it worth the trouble to work with the wooden ones.)

Will these strips work with corrugated metal panels? Will they line up with the peaks and valleys?

Asked by: todiy
No, these are made for the Pollycarbonate plastic panels. But they are horrible for even that application.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from don't fit these don't fit the corrugated roofing I bought, now all predrilled and have to be taken off and thrown away. waste of my time and money

I used these closure strips for a special project- supporting and sealing the uphill end of the panels against a wooden panel (there wasn't enough space for the regular flashing pieces). They served fairly well but I noticed that the profile only approximated the shape of the corrugations which made sealing rather tedious and required a LOT of silicone. The plastic closure strips were similarly approximate. Wondering why.

I ordered these to install the (Tuftex PolyCarb panel) from other home improvement store, thinking that they are interchangeable. But I had to returned them because they are not. These ONLY compatible with (SUNTUF) from HD.About the quality of these items, they are cheap compared to the plastic one, but very fragile, you have to be very careful to handle them.

Please do not buy these, there are far better options. The plastic ones are not available any longer at my local Home Depot and they now only sell the wooden ones. These split just by looking at them. It really bothers me when I follow the instructions to a T, buy the right material, hardware and tools for the job and in the end it looks like garbage. You can not screw into these without them spitting down the middle. What is the point of a self-taping screw when you have to pre-drill a pilot hole for every singe screw? Thanks SunTuff for making my job 300% tougher than it needs to be.
