Questions & Answers

Will it fix an existing leak while it is leaking?

Asked by Don January 1, 2018

Dear Don, Yes but it is best to turn off the source of the liquid. Click on the link below. The last video on this page shows a repair done under pressure. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Super-Glue-1-in-x-10-ft-Black-E-Z-Fuse-Silicone-Tape-15408-6/204237144

I bought a cheap whole house water filtration system that was made in China. The fittings wouldn't seal up no matter how much Teflon tape, pipe dope, or combination of the two I put on, which the guy in the plumbing department told me is common with plumbing items manufactured there. I was at my wits end and was contemplating buying a new system and writing this one off as a loss. Then I found E-Z Fuse Tape and decided to give it a try. This stuff was very easy to use and stopped the annoying leak instantly. I have a ton leftover from the 10ft roll I got so I'm going to try it on my garden hose and air compressor hoses next!

Great Stuff
I used this on the back of my shower tower unit in my bathroom that had sprung a leak in one of the connections and I couldn't tighten the fitting any more then it already was. It was a tricky shape to wrap but I followed the directions and it tape seemed to grab hold and stick to itself very easily. The instructions state that it fuses to itself and takes 24 hours for complete fusion so I waited that long to make sure it would hold. So far so good. There is still a tiny bit of water seeping through but overall it drastically reduced the leak.

This stuff is absolutely great. I bought a gas generator with an electric start and when I received it, I found that one of the electrical wires had been pinched by a cover plate and was throwing sparks. Easy fix with this self fusing tape, and the generator has been working well in all sorts of weather since. Then the outer jacket of the 8 gauge electrical cable to my central air conditioner cracked, and this stuff worked like a charm again.I've also repaired two outdoor extension cords with it. I haven't had a chance to try this on plumbing yet, but I can vouch for its excellence in electrical repairs.

This silicone tape is a MUST HAVE item around the house and especially around a boat! I use it on my sailboat for wrapping up the turnbuckles and it's better and more durable than normal rigging tape. I also use it to wrap the ends of lines to prevent fraying. At home I've used it for reinforcing the ends of vacuum hoses and extension cords which tend to crack after a lot of flexing. Much better than electrical tape! You can use it for emergency plumbing repairs too, which is what makes it a must-have in your toolbox. Just get a roll and have it handy for whenever the need arises, you'll probably be glad you did!

Works well,, shiny surface. Too bad currently only in case of 12 for the white color version.
This is an improvement in self fusing tape, when this type of tape first introduced it was somewhat porous looking and stretching, and only color you can get was black. Now this newer version, the tape itself has a more shiny finish which I like, and it comes in other colors, like white and also in red. Unfortunately at this time they only sell the red or white color version in case of 12. Whereas you can get the black version in single packs. I was able to use it to close off some electrical wire leads that were not required anymore. It served well as a suitable substitution to black electrical tape. Black electrical tape always had a tendency for their stickness to dry out and they will unravel. Not with this new type of fusing tape like this one. It will fuse itself close and not unravel. Excellent product for the single package pack, unless you are a contractor that can use a case of 12 for the white version. Which as this tape becomes popular in the versatility of uses that it too will be single pack sold as well in the near future.

Love this tape!
This is the best tape for quick repairs. It's durable and seals tightly. Our new dog chewed into our new heavy-duty hose. It took just a couple of minutes to wrap the tape around the hose's bite marks and seal the leaks well. No leakage whatsoever! It has sat out in the rain, the cold, and the intense high-altitude sun with no signs of weakening. Highly recommend this silicone tape!

If you have ever had an emergency arise where you needed to fix a leak in a hose, then this is for you. This tape does the trick. I like that it is non sticky and leaves no residue behind. It sticks to itself with amazing results. It works even when wet. I can think of a million reasons that I want to have this tape around when I need to fix something quickly. It is a good electrical insulator, has good strength to withstand water pressure from a hose and it provides a good alternative when you need a quick fix. It is not sticky so you have to wrap it onto itself for it to work. And it does work when you do it correctly.
Not happy with this guy
I was not happy with this so called fuse silicon tape. At least for me in my case I couldn't get it glued (fused) properly. May be I was doing it wrong, But either way at the end I was disappointed. I tried this on a water bottle where I had a leak near the water dispenser tap. However it failed to get it properly fused. After a while the tape was off of the bottle. Probably it didn't like the surface water.

Works for high temperature areas
This may not be what the manufacturer intended but I used this tape to wrap valve levers and pot handles on my homebrewing equipment. The covers that came on the valve handles quickly failed and I had kept a rag around to use when changing the valve position but I sometimes forgot and paid the price. Now that the handles are wrapped with this they are cool enough for me to grab with out burning my self. This stuff is so cool I find my self looking for more things I can wrap for better grip or heat protection.
