Are these truly 4' x 8' or slightly smaller as dimension lumber is? Like are these 47.5" x 95.5" or something? Just trying to calculate what I need with the least amount of waste to make some rafter baffles for a cathedral ceiling.

This board is manufactured at an intended 4' x 8' size, give or take a small margin of error - typically 1/8 of an inch or less at a 1" thickness.

Does this product allow moisture to exit the building shell? Most of the framing lumber used today is quite green. The moisture has to migrate in one direction or the other (into or out) as the lumber dries.

Dear ZZZZZ: Foam board is an effective moisture retarder, which increases (obviously) with thickness -- so your wall design should definitely allow moisture to dry to one side. One good alternative is Roxul ComfortBoard sheathing, which could be used to 'wrap' the exterior walls with R-6 per layer. Roxul is much more vapor permeable and provides R-4.2 per inch of thickness, almost as much as foam board. Similarly, if you wrapped the house with foam board, you could fill the stud bays with Roxul ComfortBatt or packed cellulose, to allow the wall to dry to the inside. This also allows you to create an effective air and water seal on the exterior surface -- which is a good in general. Work in Garage for exposed concrete block wall?

I have a basement garage on the 2nd level that has the outside facing wall that's just the exposed concrete block. Would this would to go over concrete blocks? So far I've used waterproof masonry paint and sealed the bottom as it means the concrete slab flooring. My idea is to use rigid foam insulation and the drywall over it if possible. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Stephen: Foam board is the best solution for your garage, with >R5 per inch. A couple of tips: (1) Seal all of the edges and joints to block air leaks. DAP 230 works well for small gaps. Use the 'Windows and Doors' version of Great Stuff for larger gaps. (2) Foam board is very flammable and MUST be covered by 1/2" drywall in any garage, living space, basement, storage area, etc. To boost the total R value, fill your stud bays with Roxul ComfortBatt, which provides R4 per inch. Is this product too rigid for shaping to an arched ceiling?

My garage has an arched ceiling with a very gentle pitch. I'm hoping it's possible to make a couple relief cuts on the non-reinforced foil side of this board to make it conform to my ceiling. This is not available at my local store, so I'm unable to look at the product. Any help or info is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello again: I forgot to include the details for 1/4" XPS from Home Depot, which bends easily and would probably be the best option for your curved ceiling. Look for: FOAMULAR 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 50 ft. R-1 Fanfold Insulation Sheathing Owens Corning Model # 10UM Internet # 100320301 Store SKU # 409692 As noted in the description, this thin insulation comes in a fan-folded stack. A photo is attached. You could simply apply multiple layers to create the thickness and R value you want. XPS has an R value of 5 per inch. I hope this is helpful. Mark

Needed a little more than one tube of foam board construction adhesive per 4x8 sheet to keep it glued to my basement walls. I found that it was best if I put larger blobs of glue instead of stripes so the board would stick better.
