Q:What is the reason I need to use SuperBase as a primer vs. some other high quality primer?
        by|Sep 1, 2022
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Superbase was designed to work with Sunshield and as such, we stand behind the performance of both products. You can use another primer if it is compatible with Sunshield. Keep in mind that when you use a primer other than Superbase, we cannot be responsible for the performance of the primer you use if it should lose adhesion.

I got a call from the distributor to explain to me the proper way to clean my roof and then apply the primer and then the ceramic heat resistant paint. Gregg was very helpful ( and excited about their products ) and I spent a few weekends cleaning, priming and painting. Product works excellent and as described. My roof in Miami went from 165* degrees in the afternoon, to now be in the 80’s ( I think it will be even better as it cures, and I also may put on another coat which should make it even cooler as I have 1 bucket left soI may have put it on too thin. Don’t spend tens of thousands on a new roof and insulation… paint it !!

Even two coats goes on thin and transparent but sufficed as a primer for the SunShield product. Why is it so expensive and even more costly than the ceramic Sunshield final coat?

The amount of Superbase primer required and the spread rate that you get when applying Superbase as a primer in your application is dependent on your surface type and the condition of the surface. The better condition the surface the less Superbase primer required and thus the lower the cost of the amount of primer required for our application. Some applications do not require the primer and some requires less of the primmer than others, again depending on the surface type and its condition when applying Super base. I have never written a product review before but this product and the Radiant Barrier for Roofs and Exteriors truly warranted a review. I had a foam roof installed in my home and the roofers talked me into upgrading the top coat to what they claimed to be the best product available. After completion I noticed that the coat even though it was white it still got really hot during the summer moths. After about 18 months the top coat started to peel off exposing the foam. After legal dealing whit the roofing company I ended up being out of luck because they declared bankruptcy. I got estimates from several other roofing companies and they were extremely high so I decided to do it my self and chose these products. because of the degradation of the foam I applied a couple coats of the primer followed by the radiant barrier and it is amazing how well these products perform. the product is quiet cool to the touch and it has lowered the heat transfer into my house dramatically thus reducing my energy usage and cost. I highly recommend both products.
