I use my pump only for when water comes in my basement door. When there is snow on the ground and it rains, the water comes in sometimes. I place my pump on a metal sheet on the ground in front of the 2 inches steps that are in front of the door. Will this pump allow me to have it turn on at say 3 inches of water and turn off at about an inch of water?? Also- how does this hook up to the pump??? Thanks.

Thanks for the answers guys. I was able to get this to work though. The rod is plastic and I clipped about 3 inches off of it. And I strapped the float switch to my pump with the bracket and a larger metal strap that I bought. So how I have it attached to my pump, the bottom of the stopper is about a tad higher than ground level. This is when the unit will kick off. Since I clipped a lot off the rod, when the float rises, it activates the switch at about 2 inches or maybe a tad more. And I didn't even have to use another stopper as was suggested. It works perfectly for what I need. Thanks for those who replied

When removing the old pump switch from the pump, don't you need a "dummy plug" to put in the top of the pump to make the new switch work?
Asked by: Harley
I just installed this switch and it will not kick on the pump. By dummy plug I mean what goes into the hole that the old switch went into on the top of the pump? A couple of yrs. ago on my old pump, I replaced the float switch and it came with a plug to put in the hole left by the old switch where it plugged into the top of the pump.
