Questions & Answers

Can this be used on a 2x6 bottom sill (framing)?

Asked by: Dave
I installed these on window rough openings with 2x6 framing. The main focus of these is to provide a seamless corner transition of the wall plane to sill/jamb. Flashing tape handles the rest. The depth of framing doesn't matter.

so the title says for doors and windows, but the specs say for windows only. Which is correct?

Asked by: Philip
This corner flashing is 3.5 inches deep which works well for windows. In some cases It can also be used on doors; however some doors will require a 4 and 9/16 inch sill flashing.

SureCorner flexible corner flashing for door and window installation served as a great supplement to the flexible sill flashing for my sliding patio. Hopefully, the combination of the SureCorner and the 6 in. wide Grace Vycor Plus flexible flashing will protect the subfloor/sill and all below it from water intrusion for a lifetime. I had to replace the 20 year old Crestline wooden (Aluminum clad exterior) patio door that came with my original home. I chose the United 4500 vinyl door for the second installation. In 1997 my builder installed the patio door with no protection of any kind to the subfloor/sill. Over the years water infiltrated and damaged part of: the fixed door panel (not his fault), the door sill, subfloor/sill, the exterior OSB sheathing, box joist, floor joist, insulation (between the floor joists), and the house sill. I had to fix/replace some structures before installing the new door. A replacement job became a repair and replacement job. Good luck with your projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right thing for the job, needs to be stocked in stores Absolutely the best thing for the job. I just can't understand why Home Depot pays UPS to ship them to stores (free to the customer) and making the customer wait to get the product, instead of stocking them in stores.

When installing windows with flexible sill flashing alone, turning the corner creates a small spot where water can infiltrate because you have to cut it so it will lay flat at both the sill and the jamb. By installing this product at the lower corners before installing the sill flashing, it provides a secondary line of defense against water intrusion should any water get past the flashing right at the lower corner. These pieces are relatively inexpensive and easy to install. It probably took less than 5 minutes per window opening (2 lower corners), which is faster than using a traditional 'bow-tie' made from flexible flashing to seal the corner. On top of increased speed, it creates a better end result. Flexible sill flashing sticks to it aggressively and forms a good seal. I would recommend this product to anyone installing new windows with outside nailing flanges.

You position them with a door and window sealant then a couple staples to hold them in position. Then you flash right over them. Great protection from water damage. The only drawback is they will hold a nail fin window out a little at the bottom because of the added thickness.
