To sticky in my opinion.. I'd go with the shrink wrap or use disposable plastic painters plastic which is super thin and cheap. Use masking tape. It won't protect from scraping but will seal out dust. Wrapping plastic is much thicker, easy to apply and remove while providing excellent protection.

Thank you for checking with us! Carpet Shield is a temporary 30-day carpet protection product to be used only on synthetic carpet. As another user suggested, our recommended solution for hard surfaces is Ram Board.

My carpet is sticky after I removed the film. How do I fix this?

Only had mine on carpet 2 or 3 days for use waiting for more permanent clear poly runners. The label states to change/remove within 30 days. Nowhere near that long on carpet for me, so no residue. I would call a professional carpet cleaning service if I were you.

Poor Product
Being in the remodeling trade I have used a lot of similar products. This one is not worth the cost or time to fight it. It simply won't stay down. Even after walking all over it to try to get it to adhere, still comes up. Photo is after 5 minutes of taking it down for the fourth time.

Do not purchase - it will permanently ruine your carpet!!!
We are doing a remodel and wanted to protect our off white very plush carpet. When we pulled it up - very carefully - it removed carpet strands and left a very tacky film. We had a professional carpet cleaner come the very next day but they said they probably could not remove the sticky substance as they have had others call for this same issue and didn't help. Our carpet is now completely ruined!!!!

DOES NOT COME OFF!!
We thought this was a great idea to protect our carpets during a remodel, but everywhere it was walked on is sticking to the carpet, pulling the carpet up as we’re trying to get it off, and ripping off in teeny tiny pieces. You can not use this on a soft, plush carpet even if it is a short nap. Will probably need to rip out $4000 worth of carpet and replace or put in hardwood. If I could give this zero stars I would

I put this product down on my stairs and upstairs carpeted hallway and it has permanently damaged what was new carpet. Even after professional cleaning by a reputable carpet cleaning company, there is a clear pathway where the sticky substance underneath the "protector" went deep into the carpet fibers and can't come out. I am looking at having to replace expensive carpeting which was only 1 year old! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

I used this product for an unconventional application. I took in a foster dog that was not potty trained. I used this to seal the carpet and covered seams with extra layer of gorilla tape. It worked perfectly. Prevented my carpet from damage while i potty trained the dog. I have attached a picture of the adorable hellion for your viewing pleasure.

I have had no problem applying or removing this by myself, It left no residue, and has saved me so much money and time. I use it because my older dog has become incontinent of late, unable to to wait until I get home. I have spent so much time and money on carpet cleaning and replacing many rugs, I tried this out of sheer desperation. Both dogs are constantly walking over the area this is applied to, causing no damage to it. I have even peeled up portions of it after "accidents" and just replaced that piece instead of the whole strip. There are several different brands to choose from but this is the only brand I have used, though I may try the other brands as they come in a longer roll. There appears to be different types of this in different stores and some are made for long and short pile carpets, I think maybe the horror stories about contractors using this and being left with residue may be down to the type of carpet it is used on. This is definitely sticky while it is on the roll, but used on my shag pile rug, there isn't enough surface area for it to "stick" per se, only enough for it to catch a hold. I did find that there can be patches where it doesn't have either any or enough adhesive to stick at all and it looks kind of cloudy but still does the job. Because of the placement of this rug it is used on, it is a high traffic area, I have not had it down in one section longer than 4 days so, until I try to remove it after a longer period of time I have to say I have no residue or difficulty with the removal, in fact after removing the first time without immediate replacement, dog hair still managed to blow around with no sticking to the rug. If you're worried about the adhesive, I would advise trying it on a carpet sample with similar pile to the carpet you want to protect.

This is a horrible product and it should be discontinued in my opinion. It destroyed our 6 month old carpet when our contractor decided to "protect" our pile carpet with it. Following a very difficult and time-consuming removal process, we were left with an adhesive covered carpet which had many yarn fibers extracted. We had it professionally steam cleaned, but that was completely ineffective. The cleaners also applied a solvent which had no effect. The carpet is sticky, discolored, and has pulled fibers throughout. Our homeowners insurance doesn't cover it. We wish the contractor had just used canvas tarps to protect our carpet, and I'm sure he will from now on.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. My builder purchased this product and ran it down our hall and into the master while working on a bathroom. When he pulled the product off the carpet - it left a sticky residue that has essentially ruined a 3 year old carpet. The damage is clearly seen in photos. The carpet is matted with the residue which is attracting all kinds of dirt. The company will not do anything about it because the “product is not still in place” and the builder doesn’t have remnants from the roll he bought. My last resort will be to get the carpet professionallly cleaned, but it’s so bad we may have to replace the carpet. My builder says this is a new brand - HD used to carry a different brand that he never had problems with. We have asked HD for some help as well, but they just referred us back to the company - Surface Shields - who makes the product.
