Yes, clamps on either end should hold this straight-edge secured to the material that needs to be cut. Just remember that the straight edge is only a guide and you shouldn’t put a lot of pressure on it when cutting. Hope that helps!

Great for doing long layout lines for cuts. Prior to this I used a straight 6 ft metal tube; this is much better. It is made of a springy steel; it is rigid but not stiff: it has some flex in it. The edge is very straight (I used my 48 in level to test it) an since it is also 1/8 in thick, it makes for a good cutting edge guide for a saw as well, as long as you clamp it down. The bright yellow color makes it stand out on any work piece you use it on. The paint on it seems to be an epoxy based one (not sure) but it is slippery and should not mar surfaces; however, I found that it would slide when I was making a line unless I either held it down tight, clamped it, or used a lighter pressure against it with my pencil in drawing my lines. If you need to make long lines for your layout this will work well. One final note: like I said, the straight edge is made of a flexible steel; having said that, if you are not careful in storing it and you put something heavy on it, it will bend.

Nice straight edge! I like the bright color. It's easy to find in my shop. So far I have used it to layout plywood sheets and one Styrofoam sheet. The 48" lenght makes it perfect for 4' wide sheets. It also doubles as a ruler with one side marked in 1/8" increments and the other marked at 1/16" increments. It's made from aluminum making it light weight and rust free.

Good quality light duty straight edge. Light weight, brightly colored and very inexpensive. Made from aluminum, powder coated bright yellow with black thermo-bonded markings for the graduations. 48 inches long, 2 inches wide and 1/8'th thick with ascending and descending 16'th and 1/8'th graduations. There are no markings on the back side and there is a 1/4" hole to use for hanging the rule on a peg or nail. This is a great product for use when working with low abrasion substances such as hanging wall paper, cloth, crafts and even light wood working. I would not use this when working with steel or brick products. Good product, recommended.

Nice strong straight edge and ruler for construction and woodworking tasks. Painted bright safety yellow so that it never gets lost. 2 inches wide and obviously 48 inches long. Measurements are broken down to 1/16 on one side and 1/8 on the other. Back side is plain yellow. Great for cutting drywall, plywood markings, any type of large sheet material or any situation where you need a perfectly straight line. Clear inch markings and a nice hole for hanging on a nail in the shop. This arrives ready to go of course and feels durable. It's made from approx 1/8" metal and doesn't bend easily. I'd highly recommend it. Zero issues and should last for decades.

This Yellow 60 in. Straight-Edge by Swanson is a great addition to my tools. I do a lot of woodworking and have to cut a lot of plywood so this straight edge gets used very often. Being a bright yellow you don't have to worry about losing it!! The black numbers are made large for easy reading. One edge is marked with 1/8ths and the other edge is in 1/16ths. The straight edge is made of a strong high-grade aluminum alloy. The yellow is a powder paint that will hold up to just about any kind of cleaning solution's.The straight edge is 2 inches wide with a hole at the top for handing on a wall.

The Swanson 60" Straight Edge is Awesome! Whether you're a DIYER or Professional you need this tool. The metal is flexible yet strong enough to take on tough jobs. The layout is SAE with 16ths on one side and 8ths on the other. The thermally fused yellow powder paint finish won't come off using the following harsh cleaners, paint thinner, brake cleaner and ammonia. Each of these products had no effect. However, paint stripper does lift the coating, so don't use it to clean this tool. Swanson coated this straight edge with high gloss yellow with safety in mind. The graduations and numbers are slightly larger than other straight edges making it easier to read. Like most straight edges there is a hole at one end enabling it to be hung. The Swanson 72in. straight-edge ruler is something I can use often. The ruler is made of a high-grade aluminum alloy and is painted with a thermally fused yellow powder paint finish. It has black thermo-bonded gradations for a nice contrast. The 2in. width and light weight make this a great straight-edge. This ruler is thick enough to use it for a guide for cutting wood. Very good quality and I will get a lot of use from it for many years.

This is a big help in my shop. My longest straight edge, other than a level, is 36". I end up doing layouts a piece at a time and they are sometimes off. This is heavy duty, sturdy and the bright yellow and black marking is easy for my old eyes to read. It has the 1" - 72" starting from each end but an added convenience is one way is marked in 1/8" increments and the other way is marked in 1/16" increments. The 1/8" side is much easier to read and I rarely work down to 1/16". I wish I had added this to my shop earlier and it will get used on a regular basis.

Looking for a nice solid ruler and straight edge? You have found it. This is a solid and slightly heavy straight edge for any workshop. You have measurements on both edges and in ascending/descending. The measurements are in 1/8th inch on one edge and 1/16th inch on the other edge. The 4 ft length makes it perfect for working with sheetrock or plywood. I don't think I will need to buy another for the rest of my life. Very well made.
