Questions & Answers

May I know what variety is this? Fo I need to buy 2 of them to cross pollinate? Do you send two different varieties?

Asked by: Gardenlover
I'm curious too. For $10 a plant, it'd be nice to know. BTW I hear Turcidus from Germany has the best flavor. Also Crimson Star is good and may be more available stateside.

Can I grow ths in pot or they have to be inground planted to produce fruit?

Asked by: Miro
If you grow in a container the roots allegedly will stop growing when they reach the pot sides and then it can put its' energy into producing fruit sooner than if you put in the ground. My source says one can get fruit in the first or second year that way when usually it takes 3 years. Home Depot's plant appears to be only 1 year old so it is possible to get fruit the year you containerize it. Recommended pot size is 5 (five) gallons minimum though. However I have grown my young plants in smaller pots about 3 (three) gal.

They were kind of messy in the box, dirt spilled, but still in decent shape with some leaves. I planted in containers and left in front of my windows for the winter. I moved them outside in spring, and they took off. I now have berries on one of the two and both are flowering. The leaves come off pretty easily, so you have to be kind of gentle at first, but after they are established, no need to be gentle. Mine came about 2 ft tall and are now 6 ft easy and bushy. They also show no signs of pest or insect damage, and no sign of diseases either. They are very resistant to both.

I thought maybe it was dormant, so I planted it and took care of it daily. It NEVER came alive, even after two months. Home Depot sent me a dead stick stuck in dirt. VERY unhappy. Home Depot is sending dead plants! Do NOT but this.

I received my goji berry bush on October 12th in relatively poor condition. When it arrived there was dirt spilt all over the interior of the packaging, as expected so I wasn't concerned. There were only about 6-8 leaves on the plant when it arrived and within the first week it dropped almost all of them (I was concerned). I transplanted into a bigger pot with ph-adjusted soil, adjusted the temperature and humidity of the room, and gave the plant 12-14 hours of light a day and regular watering. Despite my best efforts the goji berry bush has officially kicked the bucket (it is now Dec 1st). I've never had such trouble with any plant before. To conclude, I received the plant when it clearly was in poor health. After 2 months (October & November) of intensive care the plant never continued to die until it was nothing but dry twigs sticking out of the soil. Very disappointed, was expecting and hoping for a better quality plant to begin with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goji's are Great! The six Goji Berry plants that I ordered arrived a few days after ordering - because of the weekend. They originated from Wisconsin. They were packaged very nicely. All individually wrapped in paper surrounding a potted plant - pot tightly wrapped in plastic to keep the moisture in the root ball. The plants looked great! Each of the three of four, six to twelve inch stems, had numerous living buds and no dead wood. I waited a week or so for some colder weather to pass before putting them in the ground. It's now about ten days post planting and there are little leaves growing on each of the stems. Very happy with the purchase and suspect I'll have a bit of fruit this year considering the plants arrived already a year old with some very nice roots.
