Q:can i use this to replace the shock cords in my tent's pole?

    Answer This Question

A:  If it's one of the large main poles, yes. Would not work for a rain fly pole because it's too large. Just used it on one of the large poles for a Coleman tent and it worked really well. Was stiff enough to thread through without a a needle.

A:  Yes. I used it for that exact purpose and it worked great.

Q:Could I use this in sewn face masks?

        Answer This Question

A:  Yes, I've made several masks and put channels on the sides so the cord isn't directly sewed to the mask. Works great. However, I make the straps to go over the head not just the ears so you are using more cord. I've cut my cord at 28"

A:  Too stiff for that purpose at least that is what my wife says. She has been making a few masks for the family. It could work, but I do not sew.

          by|Apr 30, 2020

A:  I guess you could, it would be worth a try. It is thin and should be easy to sew.

          by|Mar 24, 2020

A:  Yes I think you could

            by|Oct 19, 2022

A:  In a pinch, I would say yes. You mean for the upper and lower "straps" that go over head ? A little thick, should not be too uncomfortable. I don't know how you would attach to material. Staple ? or sew. Thank you for your effort during this crisis. God Bless. My use was to hold a plastic trash liner in place on approximate 18 " diameter outdoor trash receptacles on a golf course. This item not in stores, you must order online for in-store pickup. THB

A:  Yes, this worked perfectly for sewn face masks.

                by|May 6, 2020

A:  I have used this for face masks but I did not sew it. I make my masks with tunnels on the sides. I thread this cord from the bottom up on one side then from the top down on the other side and tie the two ends together so it is one continuous loop. You can wear your mask around your neck to have it ready to wear at a moments notice. Just put the mask over your face and pull the top loop up onto your head. I works great! If you want just ear loops, you could thread it through the tunnel, cut it, tie a knot and hide the knot in the tunnel. I haven't tried this yet so I don't know how comfortable it would be. Also, because it is rubber, I don't know how it would react in a commercial situation like a hospital washing machine. It washes and dries just fine in my home. Good luck and thanks for making masks!

A:  I’m not sure. I used it to repair a broken tent pole. I will say it is very strong and durable and has held up well. kJ

                    by|Mar 24, 2020

A:  Possibly. Some experimentation required. First, I assume you are using this to replace the elastic head straps. Second, fastening this to face mask will be difficult because I don't believe you can sew through this with a regular sewing needle or even a leather needle. The Boss(aka Wife) informs me that a wide zig zag stitch that does not try to go through cord might work. Placing a knot in the end of the cord would probably be required. An alternative would be to heat the end of the cord with a torch and melt the end to create a blob as well as preventing fraying. You could try fastening cord to mask using either a grommet(s) in the mask or reenforced button hole(s). One idea would be to use 1/4" heat shrink tubing. Run cord through hole and then back on itself. Push 1" piece of 1/4" heat shrink tubing over cord and shrink tight. Second idea would require you locating a metal collar that could be crimped over the cord ends instead of the heat shrink e.g ~1/4" brass tubing cut 1/4" or 1/2" lengths. Keep in mind this cord should only be stretched by 50% of its original length. And it is no where as "elastic" as the normal straps on these types of masks. Good luck. We need more people like you in this world.

A:  I have ordered this product to utilize in making face masks. It seems like it will work well with the CDC mask pattern that slides the ear bands through sewn fabric. I'd love to know if anyone has utilized this product for similar purposes.
