          A:  Good question. I see it specified as cotton or cotton/polyester blend or polyester at various places on the product page. After doing a few tests I believe it's a cotton/polyester blend. 1. Flame test -- Burns vigorously with considerable soot. This would be the polyester burning, cotton doesn't burn like this. After the flame subsides there is a glowing white ash, typical of cotton burning. 2. Oven test at 450deg -- The string comes out dark brown and springy and won't unwind. Probably from the polyester melting. I wouldn't use this to tie up a meat roast or meat rolled and sauteed. Use pure cotton instead.
