A:  Right means it will apply force in the Right direction or Clockwise, Left = counterclockwise

A:  If you want to loosen a screw, set it on "L"; If you want to tighten, set it on "R". If you're dealing with a screw with reverse (left hand) threads, "L" to tighten, "R" to loosen. The spring on the tool has considerable tension...you can remove the adapter cap & use a vise to adjust the driver.

Q:Is this tool strong enough to remove frozen lug nuts?

    A:  No

    by|May 5, 2023

A:  I am not sure, I have not tried it. If I were going to try it on Lugnuts I would try it with the 1/2 drive.

      by|Dec 27, 2018

        A:  no

        by|Nov 26, 2020

A:  I do not believe this will deliver the impact torque required to remove frozen lug nuts. It is designed for use with 3/8" drive sockets and screw driver bits. It is great for loosening frozen screws and bolts. The hammer strike delivers force and a shock both in better setting the screwdriver blade or point and rotationally. This helps prevent damaging the screw head while loosening stuck screws.

        by|Dec 21, 2018

A:  One size doesn't fit all here...depends how frozen the nut is. Just be sure to use an impact-rated socket.

          by|Mar 14, 2021

A:  No. But you can do same with a socket, breaker bar and a dead-blow hammer. Put socket on the nut with breaker bar, start hammering at the end of the breaker bar handle. A The idea is to apply shocks to the corrosion to break away to let the nut loose. A regular hammer will also do instead of a dead-blow hammer, but regular hammer will bounce back that can hit you back if you are not careful.

A:  I do not think so. It is for frozen screws. I would use WD40 and a breaker bar for frozen lug nuts.

                Answer This Question

A:  It doesn’t turn, it mess up my rotors. I took it to Honda dealer to unlock & change the rotors...cost me more money.

                by|Sep 10, 2022

A:  It locks into either clockwise or counter clockwise and of course that’s the entire purpose of this tool...turn when you strike it. Great for the most stubborn screws, nuts including lug nuts.

A:  No. I'd get a large regular flathead for that.

                          Good Luck with the Warranty
I bought this impact driver from HD on Jan. 1, 2017 to do a brake job on the front axle of my Honda Pilot. The rotors are attached to the axle using some 6 mm screws with a phillips head. They won't budge if you try with a regular screw driver. With this tool I was able to get the screws out, but in the process the bit tip broke off. A couple of years later, I needed to do the brake job on the rear axle. I used this tool again and now the other phillips bit that it came with is about to break too. No, problem right? It's under warranty. Since May of 2019, I've contacted Tekton three times now - twice via email and once using their webform for a warranty claim. I have yet to receive any replacement bits from them. I recommend that you spend a little more and get one that the manufacturer will actually stand behind - you know, the kind with a real warranty....So, that's what I'm doing next.

                            JUNK
Bought this thing as I figured it would come in handy some day. Now I'm not in the business of repairing cars or even doing my own brake rotors for that matter. Yet, the first time I used it, it failed miserably/pathetically. The bit would not turn when striking the tool with a hammer. Made sure, multiple times, that the directional adjustment was properly set, yet it still would not work. USELESS JUNK, NOT WORTH THE PRICE OF THE CARDBOARD BOX IT COMES IN!

                              Worked, but barely
After only a few uses, it is difficult to reverse the direction of the bit. Most annoying is that the strike end is soft. An 8oz. hammer is usually all you need when working on motorcycles, which is my primary use for this tool. The impact end crushed, mushroomed, which created a sharp edge that bites into my hand as I grip it. The point is, this tool is meant to be hammered on and should not be so soft that it deforms while being used.
