Hello. Yes, you may add a diverter and still have a good amount of pressure for your waterfall. To have a solid sheet of water flow with this spillway, the minimum water flow is 800-GPH, so depending on the height of your waterfall a 1200-GPH pump should give you enough flow for this setup. We hope this helps!

Does this require a filter cartridge?

We use one of the prepackaged "bales" of barley straw and it seems to work really well. Our pond clears after running the pump only a half hour or so, but you'll need to experiment to find how many your need.

Can filter media be used with this waterfall?

Absolutely. I started using filter boxes for all my pond pumps now, and I normally use a dedicated 400 GPH pond pump for each fountain/waterfall/water ball, etc. I also have a main pump that's 900+ GPH that I use for the 'main skimmer box'. This results in more work cleaning the filters, but it's also more beneficial to the fish. I never use any chemicals in my pond, just pump filter boxes, a UV filter, an aerator, and water hyacinths for cover/concealment. My pond has 100+ fish - all gold fish, some of which are more than 20 years old, and they live in the pond year 'round (I live in Northern Virginia, so we get some freezing weather).

In the U.S. we have a zZp Code to help simplify postal delivery. It is a 5-number code to designate the State and city of delivery. It is good Australia only needs 4 digits. :o)

do I need clamps where the hose attaches to the waterfall?

The nipple has 2 sizes to fit standard hoses snugly, but to play it safe I used a clamp. Since you will cover this with rock, stone or earth won't hurt.

How well does this unit work during the winter, will it freeze?

Just installed it. We have not used the product through the winter yet. The spillway is plastic and we run our water feature all year round--We will see?

is there a way to attach it to the liner?

Asked by salamander August 13, 2016

If water is 'seeping' back from the underside of the spillway of the waterfall, I don't think sealing the waterfall to the liner is the solution, as water will then just 'seep' around the waterfall in the same direction. Make sure the water supply line is connected properly and securely, the waterfall is level, and it's positioned properly so that the water flows back into the pond (i.e., not back away from the pond, even slightly). You can use flat natural stone (that is often used for residential sidewalks) to create a 'cascading effect' from the discharge of the waterfall.

would a 3" pipe to gravity flow/fill work?

Asked by Ronin April 21, 2016

I use a 4" corrugated drain pipe hooked to a drain junction el to carry gravity water to a second spillway down hill; but be aware, that you'll have to get creative if you need to couple hoses, etc. Drain hose components are not made water tight, so the joints will leak like crazy. I pack them with silicone and cross my fingers.

Very sturdy and performed as expected. Would be nice if it came with an adapter for a smaller tubing connection. Also would like the height of the side walls to be lower for better hiding.

I bought two 8" spillways for the waterfall wall I was building. The very first time I turned on the water pump after the wall was completed they began working perfectly. Now every time I look outside and see the water flowing smoothly I just smile.

The same spillway was on other websites for much more money. Home Depot has a surprisingly good price on theirs. The plastic it is made of is very sturdy- I was able to stack flat rocks on top of it without worry. I also used a 290 GPH pump that I already had. Even though it is not as powerful as what is recommended to use with this spillway, it worked perfectly fine for my needs. I used clear plastic tubing and a hose clamp to connect to the spillway, no leaks whatsoever. The reservoir also is large enough to store biomedia for algae control. The water sound was fairly muted with the height that the spillway was, so we put a flat rock underneath to raise it a couple of inches, which made the sound much better. The goldfish like to play in the moving water. Overall, we are very happy with our waterfall!

This little spillway was a perfect addition to our little garden pond. We concealed most of it with a faux boulder. We cut a slot in the boulder with a saber saw.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
I am using this spillway to provide a gentle waterfall feature to a small in-ground pond I have. It is heavy duty plastic and seems of good quality. There are 3 parts involved, the spillway, a water connection nozzle for 3/4" or 1" hose connection, and a flow basket that attaches the nozzle to the spillway, all included. It only required hand tightening of the nozzle and water flow to make a watertight connection. The outlet mouth of the spillway is long enough to extend well out over the lip of the pond and it seems to have a slight down slope built in to prevent water runback on the underside to prevent water loss. It installed just that easily, position it, attach the hose from a submersible pump, and surround and cover it with rocks. You're in business.

(What's this)
I have a cascading pond design - there is a top portion and a bottom portion and a sloping rocky link between them. I am using Model Ll1200 GPH pump to bring the water from the bottom portion to Model A16575, the 8" spillway, at the top section. I am using Model DD11330 at the bottom section to create a vortex in the lower section. The top section contains an aquatic planting area using Model A16549 for lights and aeration.
