Questions & Answers

is it compatible with time warner cable

is this a router and cable modem dual band 2.4 -5
Asked by: ERIC
Yes the OnHub is compatible with TWC. It is only a wireless router. It does not have a internal modem. The modem is a separate device.

Wifi distribution is solid throughout 2900 sqft, with first floor wifi speeds mirroring Ethernet connection speeds. Convienient that the hub works with google mesh network if you have a larger house or dead zones due to layout.

After watching numerous YouTube videos on wireless routers I narrowed my list to 3. A D-Link, a Netgear (I own a Netgear cable modem), and this Google OnHub. The OnHub is the best looking and easiest to set up. I don't care what anybody else says it's plenty fast also. I have a TWC 50Mbs connection and the thing has all kinds of room for more speed. It covers my entire 2 story house with no dip in performance no matter what room I'm in. And THD has it for a excellent price. What more can I say?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Blazing fast router and easiest installation by far Everything feels premium about this router starting from the package it comes in to the included accessories. It has a very sleek and minimalistic design with only one Ethernet, internet and USB port on the back. It comes with a slim LAN cable that can be easily concealed along with the power cord to give it a seamless appearance. The installation of this router could not have been any simpler. I am assuming this is the prime selling point of this router. All you need to do is download the On Hub app from the playstore or app store on your smartphone and its step by step from there on (you do need a google account for this router). The initial setup might take up some time since it upgrades the firmware on booting. I really liked the acoustic verification for the initial setup which makes the installation very simple. The router performs great when it comes to the speed and connectivity. I had no issues whatsoever in around 2000 sq ft area. There is also a provision of guest network in case you want to have one. Coming to the cons of the product: A lot of users would find this router to be too basic, as it does not have many options for customization. There is no provision of managing this router via computer at present and you can only do it using your smartphone. The lack more Ethernet ports on the back might also be a deal breaker for some. Beside, some of the features also seem to be inactive at present and might be coming in future firmware upgrades. Overall, I would recommend this router for those who want a quick and easy setup without the initial hassle of configuring it or calling the cable guy do it for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Router, But It Needs a Bit of Work Let me start by saying that I work in IT for a living so I am very familiar with and have worked with all types of wireless routers, but this one is different, in a good way. Mostly because of it's design, the On Hub Router from TP-Link sets itself apart from the competition, this is a router that you no longer need to hide away in a closet (which affects performance), or in a garage, basement, etc. This is a router that you can proudly display out in the open because it just looks very nice, there are even optional decorative covers that you can purchase separately that will make it blend into wherever you put it even better. Another great thing is that that all 13 antennas, yes, 13, are mounted internally so you don't have to look at them either, having that many antennas gives this router the capability of easily covering a 2500 sq ft. home with no deadspots. It's capable of producing wireless speeds of up to 1900 mbps on the 5GHz band to AC devices, so streaming, downloading, uploading, gaming, etc. is a breeze. All of this is controlled via the app for either Android or iOS devices instead of the traditional method of accessing the settings via a web browser. That brings me to why this router doesn't get 5 stars from me. Since I am a tech guy, I prefer to have a little more control of the settings on my router, the app gives you very little control. Aside from naming your network and setting the password, there is very little control given to the end user. It does give you some control over the Port Forwarding and the ability to create a guest network, but there are none of the other features, such as Parental Controls, that you find on modern routers. This could be a good thing for most people, which is why I only took away 1 star, The router performs very well in my home, I noticed immediately the coverage was much better, I wasn't dropping my connection in the yard or in the front of my house like I did with my old wireless N router. I really like the way this router handles the guest network, it allows you to create a separate password protected SSID that you can tell which devices on your network the guest can have access to. For example, if you have a smart tv, and you want people who connect to your guest network to be able to send their screen to your TV wirelessly, you just tell the router to give the guest network access to the TV, and so on, very simple to do, and very simple to change if you decide to longer share that device. You can also send a text message to someone directly from the app that invites them to join your guest network and supplies them with the network name and password which I think is a nice feature. All in all, I would highly recommend this router to anyone looking for a reliable, fast, and most importantly good looking router that you can place out in the open. As for the limitations of the app, this is Google we are talking about, there will be a ton updates coming out adding functionality as the demand for the features increases. All in all, I'm very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! This is by far the best router I have ever used. It was very easy to set up, very straightforward once you download the app. The set up was so simple and streamed lined, I could not believe it. And it actually works, we have several computers, tablets, cell phones and security cameras that are now working at top speed with no lag. I absolutely love this router, and most definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Best Router I've ever used hands down! This is by far the best, most easy to use router I have ever had. Set up is pretty easy once you get past the updates and the ring at the top to indicate your status is pretty sleek. The design is really cool with the 2-part design. Hands down, the best part of this router is the fact that it has 13 antennas paired with a small computer to basically give all of your devices the maximum amount of speed possible. I have some 10-12 devices on my network at any time and I never have to worry about buffering or loading, everything is just crazy fast and thats only with a plan of 30mbps. Also includes a guest network so you don't have to give out the credentials for your main network. Lastly, the app is really well designed and alerts you if you have connectivity issues, tells you how many devices you have connected and will let you run a speed test. Highly, highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Muscle Car of the Wi-Fi Router World I connected Google's OnHub Wi-Fi Router to my ISP, downloaded the free Google On app on my Android phone (iOS has an app, too), logged in with my google email, and voila! Thirteen OnHub antennas provide the best signal reception I've ever received. It is e.s.p.e.c.i.a.l.l.y. noticable on the outdoor wi-fi enabled security cameras, which would sometimes lag on exceptionally windy days. No more lagging. OnHub is like the conductor and all the wi-fi devices inside and outside my home are the orchestra. Together they make beautiful music by collaborating with each other. I love the luxuriousness of simplistic solutions. The OnHub Wi-Fi Router takes all the guesswork out of setting up and programming for me and all I had to do was plug it in. There's another important reason I'm so pleased with this router. It's technologically savvy to future home automation systems and will continue working for many years. I love it.
