The Trimaco easy mask brown paper makes preparing to paint worth the time. The roll is 1000 feet in length and 9 inches wide. There are other sizes available. Use blue or green tape keeps it in place. It saves cleaning off the floor, doors, walls, etc. when paint splatters. Home Depot offers many other Trimaco products in addition to the masking paper such as builders paper, surface protectors, and drop clothes.

This masking paper is surprisingly thin. It is thinner than our local newspaper. Here are the results when I measured the thickness with my calipers - Trimaco Easy Masking Paper: 0.0025 inches or .063 mm thick. Local newspaper 0.0031 inches or .078 mm thick. The roll weighs 6.5 on my postage scale. The internal diameter of the roll is 1 inch. The external diameter is 6 inches. It measures 9 inches tall. The color is about the same color as cardboard. The finish is smoother than cardboard.

Not what I expected.
By "masking" paper, I'd assumed that there would be an adhesive "leader" of some sort.
But this is simply paper, 0.020" thick.
If I were to use it to mask off my furniture builds before painting [either brush or spray], I'd be doubling the effort. And it would be cumbersome to apply the "leader' and the paper simultaneously.
So, if that's how you're planning to use it, buy the roll with the adhesive edge.
Now, what to do with 1,000 feet of this stuff? I guess I could use it to cover my work surface when spraying small or narrow parts.

The roll is 9 inches wide by 1000 feet long and can be easily cut to fit your blocking needs. I will be using it lay over my kitchen floor before painting the cabinets during remodeling. Got this because we are about to start a big indoor painting project. Good masking paper for covering floors around walls when doing painting, stripping, and staining with water based materials (oil will seep through, so it can be used as long as you don’t let it sit). Huge roll will last a long time for most homeowners. Also good for covering tables and countertops when doing arts and crafts, or anytime you want a disposable, short term protection solution (I have used it when prepping my home-made bacon; makes clean up a snap). Also have used it as packing paper. It is thin and easy to tear or cut without shredding; the 1000 foot roll can be a bit awkward to handle by itself, but it does exactly what you need it for. Meant for short-term protection, and it does need to taped down, as it will curl up otherwise (but not as badly as others I have used). Good buy and good to have around for general use.

I was told about this paper roll by a painter friend, he told me for a cheap general purpose masking paper this could not be beat. I have used this paper for masking frames, engines and even along trim next to the floor when painting a house. I don't k ow what the original use was intended for but I use it for lots of stuff. I just need a dispenser and I will be happy. This has even been used for parts run notes. This is great stuff just to have hanging around. Now just to find some 6" rolls!

Bought a roll of this to paper long rectangular tables for a party. The paper is on the thin side. If I had a fast and easy way of comparing, I would have gone with a bit thicker paper. The roll of Home Depot paper easily covered 16 long tables, with LOTS to spare for another event--or two, or three!
