Answer

I never had an issue with it being thick. If you are talking about that it is hitting the baseboard, then yes. We put the wood on the top, so the door is not really flashed on the wall. We had a contractor install this too

How many inches clearance is need above door? I only have 7 inches.

Dear Customer, you need at least another 5 inches above the door for good clearance. 7 inches is more than enough.

Dear Customer, though the track can be cut, we do not recommend it because it will void the warranty of the product. Cutting it will have to be done at your own risk.

Our new door installation was not difficult for my minimal construction skills and we have been happy with the door for a month. The color is a shade darker than we hoped but is quite acceptable for our purposes. Two people are needed for the lifting. The instructions for the drywall installation are straightforward. I compensated for a sloped floor as the instructions indicated and it fit perfectly. If I had truly realized what I was doing I would have added an extra quarter inch, lol. Finding the studs was the time consuming task and I used a center stud finder along with a nail and hammer to confirm. The one negative was I couldn't screw the backer board screws in, they stripped easily. A trip to the store for some replacement screws did the trick. The finished door slides nicely and gently hits the rubber stops.

I ordered this door twice and both came damaged. Not just a little, the box was literally hanging off of them! Even though we received calls that they were on their way, they didn’t bother knocking. They apparently knew we wouldn’t have accepted it. The door itself is pretty if they can actually deliver in one peice

(What's this)
This is a good sliding barn door with a farmhouse feel. The door itself is paper wrapped engineered wood with a 5 year warranty. I would prefer solid real wood, but for an MDF - type construction, it is well made and feels heavy and sturdy. Down side is that you cannot paint the door, so you'd better be okay with white. The 36" size is good for doorways 32" and smaller. Ours is actually right at 36", so it's a little small width-wise, but we are hanging this door between the kitchen and living room mainly as a focal point for the living room, and occasionally closing off the kitchen, so it will do fine for this purpose. The iron hardware is very sturdy and well made - probably the part of the door that I'm most impressed with. The installation was a bit of a challenge, just because I hadn't hung a barn door before. A couple of notes on the install. First, do watch the video that the manufacturer has on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhzHZCpkg14 -- this was so much more helpful than the barn door printed instructions. Note that the video has you install the anti-jump bumpers 2" from the hanging brackets, not 1". Also note that the supplied measurements DO NOT include the 1/2 - 3/8" free space you'll need below the door in order to mount the door guide. Because I didn't clue into this, my rail holes were too low. However, since I wasn't thrilled that the backer board was also MDF and want to replace that with real wood anyway, not a problem. I picked up some 1 x 6 and will be painting it to match and reinstalling the door soon, and will take care of the measuring fail when I reinstall. Overall happy with the door and hardware. Now I'm looking at what other doorways would do well to have a barn door entry. Thinking of the laundry room next...

(What's this)
Lovely focal point. The door and hardware arrived very well packaged and in perfect condition. I'm impressed with the quality. It's extremely solid in structure and the laminate finish is top-end. I got the door to use for a kitchen pantry door opening and to add visual appeal to the room, in general. Fortunately, considering it's proximity to food, it seems it will be easy to wipe clean. The coloring of the finish closely mimics real weathered wood and is versatile enough to work with infinite wall colors. The header board is done in the same finish as the door. I tried to capture a good photo representation of the color but it was difficult due to the gray tones. It's much more eye-catching in person and has become a focal point of my kitchen and nook. The instructions are pretty easy to follow and list all tools needed. The hardware attaches easily. The holes for the straps are pre-drilled and rustic handle just attaches with wood screws (included). For modern handles you will need a drill and bit and if you opt for the finger pull you'll need a Forstner bit. Of course, tools needed for mounting include a drill, assorted bits, stud finder, and a level. Unfortunately, I've run into a snag redoing my flooring so I haven't been able to do measurements from the floor to affix the header and rail. But, based on previous experience with mountings and the good quality of the hardware, I foresee no issues. I am, however, anxious to try out the slow-close function. I'll re-post in the unlikely case that I find anything wrong with it. I honestly can't find anything to criticize about this door, not even one ding in the finish. Over-all; it's a very well-made and great looking product that is packaged nicely for the consumer, all at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend.

(What's this)
I had a tough time deciding what star rating to give this door. The installation was terrible, but the finished product is great. I don’t usually penalize a product very much for a tough installation, but this one was especially bad, so I knocked it down to 3 stars despite being happy with the end result. Here were the problems with installation: First of all, the instructions aren’t very helpful, and in a couple places flat out wrong. In one spot, it tells you to use a 5/16” drill bit and the corresponding image shows a 3/8” bit. The bigger problem there, though, is that you don’t want to use EITHER of those bits for the holes going in the header above the door or any studs. That size hole is for the drywall anchors where there are no studs/header and would leave too large a hole for the lag screws to grip the wood. It also fails to tell you how to center the rail above the door. It says to position the wood backing “a minimum of 2” from the end of the blocking to the side of the opening (of the door).” Again, another major problem: it really has to be a minimum of 8” (or maybe more) to allow the bumper that stops the door from sliding off the track to be properly installed on the rail. It is supposed to be positioned INSIDE the first lag bolt that holds the rail to the wall to prevent the bumper from failing and sliding off the rail, which would allow the door to slide right off. Plus the bumper itself is 2” wide. Additionally, the track is shorter than the wood backer. That may have been difficult to follow, but the bottom line is if I had followed the directions and only positioned the wood backer 2” out from the doorway opening, the barn door would have come up 6-8” short of covering the doorway. The image (included in my review) shows a space that appears much larger than 2”, so I’m guessing it was another mistake in the instructions. Another gripe I have is that they didn’t include any hardware to fasten the wood backer to the wall. When you’re spending hundreds of dollars on a product, the least they could do is throw in a handful of screws that are necessary for installation. At first I figured it must have just been missing from the box, but it’s not included in the list of hardware, plus I found video installation instructions and the video conveniently breezes over that part. I had to go down to my garage and find screws of my own. The screw heads, by the way, are visible, so you better find screws that are a close match in color or they will stand out. Fortunately, I was able to pick up on all of these things before I started the installation and I got my door secured properly, but anyone who closely follows the instructions is going to have big problems. Despite all of this, I will give credit where credit is due: it is a very solid, heavy, good looking door. I’m happy with the end result. Just be prepared to use some ingenuity on the installation.
