Q:What's the shear strength on this particular anchor?

Q:Are the 5/16" Tapcons available in 3 1/4" length? Fastening a 2x4 to a brick column and this would be the required screw length to meet the minimum recommended embedment of 1 3/4". Seems like this would be a fairly common application for the fastener.

Hot Garbage
These bolts, as well as every other Tapcon product I’ve used, aren’t worth your time. They will let you down! These particular anchors snapped off at the head and stripped the threads. Installed them exactly as specified by pre-drilling/cleaning the hole 1/2” deeper than anchor length. For an anchor that is suppose to have a 2700 pullout rating, I wouldn’t trust them to hold much more than their own weight

See pic. Followed instructions and used the Tapcon masonry bit. Two sheared off while hand tightening. Left 2/3 of the screws in two of the holes in the concrete, which is near impossible to fix. Added hours to the work having to remove everything and redrill new position holes. Use this at your own risk.

I gave this product four stars only because they are expensive. I bought a Tapcon bit, which work...
I gave this product four stars only because they are expensive.
I bought a Tapcon bit, which worked well & has a hexagon shaft so my hammer drill worked well with it.
I also have a DeWalt impact wrench, which also worked well. The only problem I had was in using a 12 point socket, which stripped a couple of the screw heads. Go with a six point socket.
Finally, make sure you ream out the hole well or the screw will get stuck half way in.
The 5/16 inch screw worked perfectly for mounting against bricks in the mortar joint.

We bought these to install a hose hanger on the side of our brick house..with a water filled hose...
We bought these to install a hose hanger on the side of our brick house..with a water filled hose is a bit of a heavy load. The anchors went through the mortar with no cracking. We have coiled and uncoiled the hose a number of times with the hanger staying put.

Worked great in patio pavers
I used these screws to attach an aluminum-framed gazebo kit to my paver patio. The instructions on the package call for a 1/4" masonry drill bit; I used a DeWalt bit which worked just fine. I originally had some trouble getting these screws to drive all the way in - even with a 200 ft/lb. torque impact wrench (yeah you can break off the heads) - until I realized I needed to vacuum out the drilling dust from the holes first!
I like that these can be removed later if we want to re-position our gazebo.
Inside the package is a card with details of the screw's ratings. I was surprised by the very large numbers! 2,785 lbs. pullout and 3,045 lbs. shear strength! Yep! Three of these per leg should hold our little gazebo down just fine!
