If your planting in well tilled loamy soil it works pretty good. I've got thick clayey soil and you need a device you can use your foot to dig in.

I gave 4-stars because there is no other tool that does this (I use it when transplanting seedlings).. The dirt better be soft or this thing will not work (I can feel resistance in fluffy light potting soil).. I thought I could use this to transplant those 3” peat pots, and it does work, but you’ll have to grab the dirt 2-4 times.. It does give more control digging out the right shape hole for transplanting..

I suppose if you are using this for a raised bed with all loose soil it would work. But to actually dig in packed soil it did not meet the task at all. I had to return mine. I was very disappointed I have 100 bulbs to plant and I thought this could save me some time. You really need an angle to cut even semi packed soil. Sadly a plain garden trowel is more effective than this!
