I purchased fhis product because it is cool to havw … somehow i was expecting shelves and the bottom are as cabinet as the online oic clearly ahow. Whej i made the selections, i remember picking the number of shelves. But just installed it today but purchased in august for iur new loft addition and its all shelves. No cabinets. Disappointed

So far so good.
Went in perfect looks and looks great. Should be pretty convincing and secure if the day comes that it is truly needed. I would recommend this door to anyone. Quality looks to be there as well. Shelves will certainly come in handy

Cool, but built/sold with zero logic or support
Finally got one to use as a bedroom door. Is it cool? Yes. Is it well made? Yes. The process was just shy of a nightmare.
- Tried to buy/install with Home Depot. They sent someone out to measure and he said "we don't install those." So we paid a contractor to do it. Maybe Home Depot shouldn't sell what they can't install?
- The door has no handle for the other side. We had to find and install ourselves.
- Things fall off the shelves. We had to DIY tipping shelves because none were available.

Always wanted one of these things!
We *LOVE* our Murphy Door. It's not only the coolest thing ever, it really helps with noise reduction. Delivery was free to my driveway, which saved us more than the cost of the great professional we hired to install the door. Install took 3 or 4 hours.

Don't expect perfection!
The door for the most part is really easy to install if you've ever installed a typical prehung door. I rated it 3 stars because I felt there was a LOT of pertinent info left out of Home Depots description of & specifications page.
The spring loaded carriage bolt used to keep the door in place needs to be at least 3/4" longer & possibly some type of hardware for the head of that bolt to slide on instead of discoloring the laminated theshold. 2 swings of our door delaminated the face of the threshold.
The door is heavy so it is easier if an additional person is around to assist with removing/ replacing the door from its pivot hinge.
In addition, most framed walls are not perfect so expect some gaps along trim/face frame junctions.

Nice but...
The door is nice & well made, fairly easy to install but...it’s the little things that have me giving it a 3 star (considered giving it a 2 star). Examples, holes are drilled every inch or so for shelf placement, but they are not stained so on the dark unit we got they look like polka dots. It makes a fairly expensive door look very cheap. There were only 2 moveable shelves sent, not nearly enough to for a door this size & it looks dumb. The shelves are not attached in way that they are secure, so sit anything with weight on the front side of the shelf & they easily flip up, dropping everything to the floor. There is no lip to the shelves, so when you open the door, everything slides off, again to the floor. Basically if you want to access what is behind it, you have to take everything off the shelves...so I guess it’s a good thing there are only 3 of them. Idea seemed good but it is not functional. We will probably end up taking out this expensive useless door (unless you leave the shelves empty, but that looks dumb too) & just installing a normal door.

Really like the door. It fits the area and does what I want it to do. A word of warning, put any furniture you want in your "secret room" before full install. Yes, the door I got was for a 30" opening however, because the hinge pins are several inches from the end the full door opening is actually only 19". Other than that I am very happy with my purchase.

My husband and I were very excited about a swinging bookcase. So we purchased 2. Our first issue was that we ordered in mid July and they did not ship until late September-- and I personally think that was only because the delivery date was missed and I did a follow up.
But once we got our doors we were VERY displeased about the quality of the wood that was used.
The shipping was very exact -- it said on the outside how the boxes had to remain upright -- they even had an indicator that would tell you if the box had been laid on its side (it wasn't). The stain is beautiful, but for 2K a bookcase, I would have expected to have much better wood (though it seems to be all REAL wood, no plywood or fiberboard). Please see images -- there are IMO an excessive amount of knots in the wood (and its in all of the bookcases). For as long as I waited and for the price I paid, I'm disappointed.
My contractor is now installing these. There are no written directions. you have to go to a web site and watch a video. AND YOU HAVE TO PUT EVERYTHING TOGETHER -- its worse than Ikea furniture!! I realize that this is a valuable way of doing things (using video), but written instructions -- for us old-fashioned types -- even if its just to download would be nice.
I usually don't do reviews. But I was hoping for something very beautiful and unique. its unique and it could be beautiful, i'm just very concerned about how long it will last with wear and tear with all the knots and cracks -- especially in so many critical places

Thank you for your quality review. I am sorry that you did not like the knots in the door. With a wood type like Alder, it is a wood that has a lot of knots. This is typically the reason people choose to have alder due to the characteristics that come with that wood. With the French Door we do send out the Jamb unassembled so that it does not cost you a fortune to ship the doors. We also leave the casing unattached so that you can get a clean and finished look once the door is installed. This is due to the large variety of floor types and finishes. If we sent the casing installed on the door, it would be very difficult to make those adjustments to the door. Please reach out if you have any other suggestions or ideas on how we can be better.
