Using this to replace a yard hydrant. I have a frost proof hydrant on the side of my mobile home that has developed a leak. The last time this happened I had to replace the entire hydrant because I couldn't find a compatible repair kit. This time, I'm using this PEX ball valve along with a 1/2 in. brass PEX-A Barb sillcock (SKU #1003818603.) to move the water line above ground and indoors. To empty the line, I'll close the ball valve, open the sillcock and break the vacuum by opening the drain cap. Of course, the line and ball valve are indoors at 90 degrees vertical to the sill cock so the water will drain. I'll still have to remove the yard hydrant and cap the line but I'll never have to replace it again.

(What's this)
This is a review of Everflow's #405P012-NL full-port ball valve [1/2" PEX both ends]. Only time will tell how well the seal [o-ring] holds up. I wasn't going to pull it apart to see how easy it'll be to rebuild it ... hopefully I'll never have to. And the PEX barbs at each end didn't leak ... so I'm assuming they're made to spec. Since there was no arrow indicating flow direction, I'm assuming this ball valve is bi-directional like most ball valves; still it should be so stated, so marked. Of course, if you'll be using the drain port, you'll want that downstream. Sometimes, when space is tight and there's interference with handle travel and you will never need to drain the waterline, you want options. [On bi-di's, I usually opt to plumb it so, when open, the handle points in the direction of flow. In this case, it'll point upstream.] The real issue I have with this valve is that it lacks any way of anchoring it [no 'dogear' for example]; so I can't recommend that the PEX tubing leading into and away from it be clipped onto studs or joists. If you're smart, you'll leave it 'floating' so that, in the event you need to close the valve you can grab the body with something to prevent stressing the PEX rings. If you don't, you'll be asking for trouble down the road ... after a few cycles, you will have worked the crimp rings/tubing such that it will start weeping.
