Product Overview

Oxygen Barrier (EVOH) is a strong and flexible cross-linked polyethylene tubing with superior temperature and pressure ratings that is useful in commercial and residential hydronic radiant heating applications. With the same properties as PEX non-barrier pipes. EVOH PEX barrier pipe keeps oxygen and other elements from infiltrating and corrupting the key mechanical components in heating systems.
  • Performance superior operation of oxygen barrier tubing that will prevent oxygen and foreign elements penetrating heating system to help maintain corrosion resistance of metal parts
  • Markings PEX tubing markings are unique feature that imprints common standards and ratings making it easy to understand tubing properties
  • Outdoor usage PEX tubing composite provides benefits of freeze protection by expanding and contracting to function as snow melting application
  • Important: This type is used strictly for heating applications and is not suitable for potable water plumbing
  • Non-structural slabs (thermal mass, gypsum slabs)
  • Sandwich types radiant heating (between subfloor and finished floor)
  • CSA B137.5: Cross linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing systems for pressure applications
  • ANSI/NSF 14, NSF rfh (certified for radiant heating applications)
  • Applications - 1/2 in. PEX tubing with oxygen barrier is common for the following radiant floor heating applications
  • Non-structural slabs (thermal mass, gypsum slabs)
  • Staple-up (between joists) radiant floor heating with and without heat transfer plates
  • Sandwich types radiant heating (between subfloor and finished floor)
  • Standards, certifications and approvals - ASTM F877: standard specification for cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) plastic hot- and cold-water distribution systems
  • CSA B137.5: cross linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing systems for pressure applications
  • All oxygen barrier PEX tubing we sell meets and exceeds DIN 4726 standard for oxygen barrier requirements
  • ANSI/NSF 14, NSF-rfh (certified for radiant heating applications)

Questions & Answers

What is the best connectionfor this pipe?the crimp ring or the pro crimp ring or the cllip.

Asked by: Joe
I prefer the crimp ring, black. We use the stainless crimp rings too but over the years I have not had any issues or call backs with the black crimp rings. The stainless have been mostly used now for fixing hose ends, water or air but I prefer the round rings. Both tools sold at the local Home Depot store.

PEX tubing isn’t suitable for above ground outdoor plumbing installations because it easily gets damaged by UV rays.

Good quality PEX tubing for radiant heating usage - in other words, there is a coating on the outside which keeps oxygen from getting inside the water and causing corrosion of the heating system. This tubing is a bit stiff, but all the PEX tubing I have used is somewhat stiff. For my installation, it seems to work just fine, with no leaks or other problems.

PEX Tubing Oxygen Barrier Radiant Heating Pipe in Red used to distinguish hot water lines from cold water lines. Attached photograph is where we used the red PEX to install a pot filler on a new remodel. The red PEX loop sticking out of the drywall is for the emergency shutoff that will be located in the cabinet below the cooktop. It supplies the upper steel nipple during the construction and through competition until the pot filler is mounted. The lower steel nipple in photograph is for the gas cooktop supply. Your local Home Depot store has all the fittings, crimp sleeves and crimping tools necessary to install this pipe. Look for it in the plumbing section. Cuts easily with a NON spring-loaded PVC cutter. Typically used with plastic barbed fittings and steel collar with need clamping tool, again available at your the local Home depot store. This pipe is made for interior installations ONLY, it is not exterior use or ultraviolet resistant.
