Q:Is the exterior paintable? Living in the south I?m worried that the black will cause the root ball to be hotter than the surrounding area.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello, we do not recommend painting our self-watering planter. Planter was designed to withstand high heat however the thermal conductivity of tire rubber is very low during a sunny day, the inner wall will be cooler than the outer. Thank you.

            Doesn't drain, Do NOT buy
I purchased 6 of these July 2022; all but one that was cracked created a swamp in my garden and drowned my plants. Swampy disgusting mess!

We love the Tierra Verde self-watering planters. They are well-constructed, beautifully designed and a great solution using recycled tires. There's no "rubber" smell, either and when you consider the self-watering aspect of these planters Tierra Verde planters are amazing.

Great outdoor planter at great price
I searched online for quite a while to find an outdoor black cube planter. This was by far the least expensive. It’s fantastic to have a self watering planter, too. As a conscious consumer, I totally dig the recycled rubber material in the construction. I would definitely recommend.

Both this last year - then need a second one this summer. Made special trip during pandemic to go get this planter from Home Depot. Great size, looks nice (neighbor is jealous), and holds water well.

I would have given this 5 stars because I love the planter so much however I ordered 3 on line and when I went to pick up they were covered in something that looked like rust inside and out. I had to take home and my husband spent 2 hours scrubbing them with a brush and soap. They never got 100% clean but they were the last ones in the store and I was matching the ones I already purchased from a different store. I can’t believe whoever the order picker was wouldn’t have noticed this (they were bad!) and attempted to wash or not sold them or even offered a discount. Disappointed with Home Depot on this one.

Absolutely fabulous design and look. The planter is not heavy nor is it ugly. It has a sturdy design and sizable reservoir underneath. After filling with water and checking the rubber plug on the bottom, there was no leaking and it was save to leave in the house on the wooden floors. I filled the planter with water and plant food and transplanted a Night Blooming Jasmine for indoor and outdoor use. Fantastic investment.

Recycled tires, modern design, and self-watering, these pots are perfect! Our west-facing house in AZ meant we could grow only rocks in the front courtyard, ugh. Now, these pots have opened up the entire front courtyard for plants and life! Well-made from recycled rubber, this pot looks fantastic, light weight, and it’s super-strong with zero flex thanks to the top cap piece that gives it such a great, chunky look. The self-watering tray sits in the bottom and there’s a rubber plug to stop the overflow pipe from functioning for indoor use—no tray needed under this, and because it’s self-watering, there’s no need to water the perfect amount; just put some water in every so often, or some water very occasionally. I’d guess you’d water an indoor plant every few months, depending on humidity. I water weekly and occasionally forget a week in the summer because they’re facing west in the dry, hot desert. Winter watering is monthly. I’m expecting my pineapple sage to be very happy in this pot because it won’t run out of water, but also won’t get root rot from overwatering. This is perfect for my skill level and climate.

Well designed planter for both inside and outside use. The planter has a false bottom/raised bed plastic floor with slots for roots to grow through. That lets you fill it with water and the soil sucks it up for the plant. There is an overflow tube that you can plug if you want to use it inside. It also has 4 feet that raises it slightly off the ground. Interestingly the cube is made of recycled tires. You wouldn't really know except it says so. It did have a rubber smell when first delivered. I have left it outside in the Texas sun for a week and that smell has disappeared. Its now inside in the dining room waiting for a proper plant. The outside is a slightly textured matte black, the inside is a flat plastic black color. The feel is slightly giving but not soft like tire rubber.

nice sized planter. great modern look. large enough for a grouping of plants and flowers, or even a tomato plant or bunch of herbs. not too large though, where it would get too heavy to lift or move. bottom has "feet" that keep it off the ground about 1/4 inch. looks to be very sturdy. nice design with the "self watering". bottom grate removes easily for cleaning and storage. can't wait to fill with soil and start growing.
