Satisfied with this dock project
I purchased five dock sections to create a long lasting dock for this private pond. I would consider myself a bit above average mechanically, but far from an expert craftsman. I used the aluminum frames with four of the sections floating and one section attached to ground. TD hinges at one joint link the fixed section to the floating portions. My biggest challenge was joining the floating sections together while keeping a stiff platform. I had first tried to use TD steel fixtures to join the sections, but they conflicted with the float locations so they were returned. I resorted to using 1/8” aluminum plate through-bolted to the frame. This tightened up the sections as I had hoped it would, taking some of the stress off the through-bolts used at the pre-punched hole locations. A plastic folding ladder was added along with composite deck boards. I did not use the auger tips on the steel posts, but instead drove the posts into the ground with a block and sledge. The posts are lifting out of the ground due to the foot traffic on the dock. I believe I’ll pull the posts and add auger tips to secure the posts so the dock stays where it’s intended to be positioned. I am very pleased with the quality of the materials. The frames are sturdy and easy to assemble. The TD floats are also great. The TD ladder doesn’t easily lift out of the water, but otherwise is great and I’d certainly use the same materials if I were building another dock in the future. Plan on spending money for stainless steel or galvanized fasteners to secure floats and sections. Fastening was the most time-consuming and challenging part of this project, but good fasteners are worth it to provide a lasting result. Great products from TD and HD.

These 4x8 Tommy Dock frame kits were the perfect solution for my needs. They were quite easy to put together, appear to be sufficiently sturdy and combined with the other Tommy Dock hardware items (brackets and posts), I have a long lasting dock solution for about half the cost of full frame options (added bonus of free shipping to store). I used about $200 worth of 5/4 x 6 planks to create my own deck sections for 4 frames for additional savings. By separating the decking from the light weight aluminum dock frame, it lightens the load by a lot. Looking forward to installing (and even removing) for years to come.

      Outstanding product
I own a high end Shoremaster dock. Was a little skeptical about a do it yourself dock kit for some added sections. They are outstanding. Easy to assemble. Very pleased.

Nice way to incrementally add docking
the instructions are a little skimpy but there are enough pictures to make sense of what you are doing. It would also be a little less nerve racking doing the construction if they included a spare of the two types of screw and the nut so that you don't have to worry about losing one accidentally. That being said, the kit is well designed and fit together in about 30 minutes. The fact that you can add your own decking later means that the dock itself is lightweight and easy to move to and from the water. you'll need 20 1/2 pieces of standard decking to complete it and if you cut all but the last two 47 5/8 you can put them in individually and have a stable surface.
