Questions & Answers

Can this be used with aluminum poles to support the dock above the water or only with a floating system?

How do you coonect multiple dock sections to each other?
Asked by: DeanJolly
Yes. There are poles specifically made for the Tommy Docks. We used them. It worked great! There are also connecting brackets. We had three sections that we connected to make a 24 foot dock. It is the best dock we have owned. Easy to build and connect, easy to install in the water. Tommy dock has a website for further instructions.

How big are the boxes that hold the unassembled kit?

Asked by: Steve
The dock boards come in one box. It is 4 ft. long and about 2 ft wide. The wood for the understructure is in a separate, longer box (8ft). Maybe a foot wide. It is surprisingly light. So, not bad to move around or handle.

Do you also offer the 4' x 10' dock kits?

A lot of their docks use 4x10 sections to build out and unless the wood is pre-cut before sale, I would hope this could also be accomplished at HD.
Asked by: CoreyMac
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot, CoreyMac. Unfortunately, the Tommy Docks Cedar Dock Kit is not available in size 4 ft. x 10 ft. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping with The Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Value Dock on the Market! This is simply the best value dock system on the market today. Been looking for a dock for years but every one cost a lot more than $1K - $2K. I completed my L dock for under $900 in less than one day of work! The cedar decking looks fantastic. All wood components are properly cut and sanded. Assembly was a breeze. The modules are light enough that I can assemble and disassemble the dock by myself. The modularity allows for future expansion. It is extremely sturdy. A great value! A tip: In lieu of the $100+ flotation log, I bought 2 pcs of 2" styrofoam boards and made my own flotation log for $30. They worked perfectly.

I ordered 2 more sections and was not impressed. The decking was rough and the wood was very knotty. The 2x6 framing was rough as well. Very disappointed with my 2nd order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I got this to use as a small platform or "floating deck" for my small backyard (not attached to the house). The quality of the wood is great. The cedar looks really nice. All the frame boards were straight and there were no cracks. Putting it together is easy. But you have to very careful about squaring the frame and using a level surface for good results. A couple of the decking planks were a bit bent but flattened out properly when screwed in to the frame. Some of the decking boards were not that precise in length. Maybe 1/4-1/8 off for a couple of them. Not a big deal but noticeable. In terms of value, for my purposes, the price, at about $5 per square foot, compares favorably to other "kits", whether wood or masonry tile. I plan to get a couple more to put some deck chairs on, etc. One note for people using it like me, the specified gap between planks, 1/2 inch, might be a bit larger than people expect or find attractive. If you knock it down to 1/4 inch, you will need to get one more 1x6x4ft board, which actually fits perfectly with that gap.
