The size of the bolt depends on what kind of structure you are mounting it to. The diameter of the fastener should be 3/8", but the length is dependent on material.

What is the diameter of the pin and what is the thickness of the plate?

The pin is a M10 x 75 Metric and the thickness of the material is 1/4"

The hinges are well-designed and I didn't have any trouble mounting them. what I did find was that the clearance between the two dock pieces was tight for trying to get the pins in place. next spring I am going to replace the two pins with one Long rod that I can safely insert from the end.
