Solid Mower, But Suffers From The Sputtering Issue
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife bought this mower as a gift for my first Father's Day. The machine is solid all-around, with a few quirks. Firstly, even though the serial number lends itself to being in the latest round of units built, it still suffers from the sputtering issue. The battery box refused to stay shut, allowing moisture and debris to enter the box. The plastic fairing covering the drive belt came installed incorrectly from the factory, and was found to be warped anyways. After contacting Toro about the parts, a new battery box was sent to me at no cost. The drive belt cover, however, was not replaced by Toro. The handle "suspension" feels great, but can feel spongy at time while maneuvering. The accelarator blocks under the deck can get gunked up quickly if any moisture is present in the grass blades, but can easily be removed with a plastic putty knife. The paint under the deck has started peeling after a dozen mows, but that can be fixed. The 190cc engine will chop/slice with the best of 'em, and the unit overall seems stout.

This thing is a monster! It goes through tall, thick and wet Texas St. Augustine grass like a hot knife through butter. I used to be a Honda guy... but after my forest of a lawn killed the Honda, I have no doubt this 190cc champion will be here fighting back the grass for years to come. This thing is so strong and has so many darn good features that I'm afraid my wife will leave me for the Toro and it will become the stepfather to my children. THAT is how good this thing is. The electric start cranked right up after a few minutes of charging, the quick start guide is super simple and it's a great looking mower to boot. I look forward to the rest of the season with this thing, I really do. I used to enjoy mowing my lawn, it's like a form of meditation for me, now I LOVE it. I thought the shock absorbers in the base of the handle would be kind of gimmicky but they are a great pairing with the personal pace system. It's like pushing the mower over small clouds. Nothing is jerky or bouncy, and it turns surprisingly smoothly. The bottom of my Honda rusted out over the 4 years I had it. Every season I'd have to repaint the bottom with rust prevention paint. Lots of moisture in my grass as well as high humidity where I live, but the aluminum deck of this Toro is Solid and I won't have to worry about rust!. I am really impressed. For the money this is probably the best lawn mower I'll ever get or need to get. My yard is really thick in the back and I usually cut about 1/2 to 2/3 the width of mower to keep it from stalling and dying. My Honda I'd have to stop, lift it up and let it come back to life so it wouldn't stall. The 163cc toro I was borrowing from a neighbor did a bit better and could handle 2/3 width cuts most of the time, but this 190cc Super recycler goes 100% full width and only ramps up a bit to chomp through even the thickest parts of my yard. I was impressed it just kept going and I didn't need to let it catch up. Not sure if I'll be able to stall it out. I cut every week otherwise it gets crazy. If I forget the 2nd week is a chore, but I don't think the 2nd week would even affect the super recycler. As with all things, there are some set backs. I wouldn't be a good internet neighbor if I didn't give you my complete honest feedback. I will say this mower is not as easy to go backwards for some reason, but I don't think it's a deal breaker. It's also not as nimble as the Honda or 163cc Toro recycler. I'll have to weed eat a bit more just so I'm not having to try and shimmy the super recycler around, but I don't think that it's a negative considering I'm already rounding out my corners and weed eating around gardens and such. It'll maybe add a minute or two of my time on the front side that is already being saved by the new machine. I'll need to time my lawn mowing to verify, but I'm 100% positive I'm spending less time in the yard. This thing is fast! Only time will tell on how long it lasts, but I flipped it up to store it and it seemed like the build quality of the bottom will make it last a long long time. I'm very excited to have this thing and I can't wait till next Friday when I get to start it up again. Truly impressed and worth every penny. (I got it on sale $599)

    Good mower but expensive
I originally bought a 22" recycler but when I got it home and put gas in it the gas came pouring out from the top of the carb. I brought it back and hd upgraded me to this but they gave me the floor model. Got that home put gas in and it wouldn't start. Brought that one back and got this in a box. Came home, gassed up and mowed the lawn. The engine is quiet for a 190cc 8.75 torque and the mower moves very smooth and cuts nice. There are great features from stow and go to the electric start. It looks like the deck is solid enough and I expect this to last a long time. 2 other things- Home Depot went above and beyond in the customer service dept. I would have been happy if they just fixed either mower but they insisted that they wanted me to be taken care of since I had to make 3 trips to get this resolved. Also, this was purchased for my personal use but I am also a certified lawnmower mechanic and I'm use to toro issues. Overall, it is a very good mower but I think at 599.00 it's a bit steep. You can live without the electric start but having the bigger engine does justify the cost.

      Toro 21387 recycler
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have mowed several times with this new recycler and i am very pleased with it. Piece of cake to put together. I have heard negative things about the briggs 190 cc but i have put it to tbe test. Mowed low, on a very steep slope, over bumps and not one time did i have a problem. I didn't buy it for the electric start but i am sure glad it has is. I am replacing a older toro and will show pictures if it will let me. Buy this mower you wont regret it for sure.

      Toro you should be embarrassed
Stuttering and stalling over bumps. Handle pinches skin at base of your fingers Hard to pull backwards, drive wheels don’t fully release. No suction won’t pick up even the smallest of twigs. Grass clippings build up underneath and fall off in clumps. Glad I kept my old Toro, it works 10 times better than this. Carburetor is 95% plastic, and impossible to adjust float to prevent stalling problem.

        Very disappointing new Toro lawnmower!
We purchased this Toro lawnmower in the spring of 2020 as a replacement to our 14-year-old Toro, which had its final run last year unfortunately. Having counted on Toro's brand name reliability for the past 14 years, we thought that we couldn't go wrong with this new model--after all, in fourteen years there must have been new technologies developed, right? Boy were we wrong! This lawnmower is at best comparable to our aging one in terms of the engine power, and overall lawn mowing results. But right from the onset, we noticed that it was hard to handle when making turns and maneuvering, etc. Some reviewers reported the apparent sluggishness of the "self-pace" feature and they were right. With this machine it feels like you have to push it even with the self propelled feature engaged. But to me, the worst part is that the bag gets stuck on a secure tab that was not properly bent from the factory. So once the bag is full and gets too heavy to just pull out, the bag gets stuck and you have to pry it open to dislodge the bag--that's incredible annoying every time we have to maw! (See picture with red circle). Either it was an incredible poor designed "detail" or someone at the factory just got lazy and neglected to fully bend the tab. On the plus side I guess, we're pleased with the electric starter, although it takes quite a few tries before the engine starts! It's the same with the pull cord. Our venerable 14-year-old Toro was still starting with one or two pulls. Also, it does a good job cutting the grass, although a suspect even the cheapest lawn mower will do that. Other nice features include the ability to fold and lean against the garage wall, as well as the ability to wash the inside of the case by attaching a water hose to a built-in outlet on top of the case. Other than that, I wish we would have chosen the Honda that's comparable in price with this Toro (maybe a tad more expensive), but now we're regretting buying this particular Toro lawn mower. Hopefully I'll be able to convince the wife to recycle this one in less than 14 years (a lot less!)...

          Super Recycler 21386
I've cut with it 10 times now and I'm really happy with it so far. The personal pace is awesome, I like to enjoy the mow so this let's me walk at a nice pace, but I also have a slope in my yard and it let's me power up that with no problem. The cut is super nice and, like it's name says, it mulches really well even with tall slightly wet grass. I haven't had any stuttering like other people have said and that's with one of my mows going from 8" to 4.25". The SmartStow makes it super easy to maintain the blades and clean under the deck without worrying about what happens when tipping it over. Also, with the cast aluminum body and the wheels, it makes it feel like a tank. Not too heavy, but super stable and well built.
