Excellent lawn mower ladies!
I’m a 41 year old woman, and have a huge yard to mow. So I ended up buying this lawn mower from Home Depot back in 2015. As of today, 6/20/21, its still going strong! Absolutely love it! No issues whatsoever.

    Good homeowner value
My first Toro Model 20331 lasted 10 years before the transmission developed problems, the engine, etc, were still in good shape however I decided to upgrade to the latest Model # 21378. I have used it twice since purchasing: It is 16 lbs lighter than the older model. Part of the weight difference can be attributed to a smaller Briggs/Stratton engine on the new model: 150CC compared to the old 190CC. But I suspect the deck may be of a different composition, hence, more weight difference. The 150CC does a good job when using the grass catcher when cutting dry grass; have not tested with wet grass. The gas tank on the new model is smaller than the old model. Now, after 30 minutes of continuous mowing, the tank is dry. The grass-catcher holding rod which fits into the V brackets on either side of the mower, is shorter than it should be. Consequently, it won't "lock into" the V brackets and can fall out when mowing although I have not experienced that problem so far. For me, with a 4300 sq ft lawn, the mower is a good fit, although having to re-fill the gas tank before completing a mow is an inconvenience. The self-propelled is good. And it is advertized as a "No Oil Change" mower, one just tops-off when needed. I will certainly change the oil after my first several mows knowing that debris may be produced by the new engine. After that, maybe just every other year. The larger rear wheels provide excellent maneuverability. Toro offers an option of a slightly larger Honda engine at 160CC .

Overall, I really like this new lawnmower. Cuts a large swath @ 22 in. Seems to be great on gas mileage as well. Easy start, 1st or 2nd pull every time. Verdicts not in yet regarding the white bag..why white? Front wheel drive is definitely different to get used to even though it seems to perform well in general, it's traction gets questionable in uneven terrain. (That may just be me adapting to it, or maybe it needs a different traction design on the tires) I would recommend it easily to most, with maybe the exception of those who have uneven terrain in their lawns where rear wheel drive would most probably perform better.

This front wheel self propelled lawn mower Is a lifesaver for me as an older woman that does my own yard work, it is now awesome to use . It replaces my older mower that was a struggle to push up my large hilly terrain yard. I can now look forward to mowing. The high rear wheels , plus being self propelled was the incentive for my purchase. I truly love my Toro front wheel drive mower.

I bought this for my stepfather for Father’s Day. He loves it! I gotta say he really enjoys the easy start self driven mechanism in this Toro lawnmower. He saves half the time when mowing the lawn. This lawnmower weighs just right and needless to say it is very user friendly. It is also very easy to assemble. My stepfather and I totally recommend this item.

My college daughter help her ol mom put this together! We had fun as it was easy to assemble, but a first for both of us! We choose the highest setting on the wheels, but decided the next time we cut the grass, we would lower the wheels by one notch(1/2"), which was a simple process. And, we liked the mulching ability, as opposed to using the bag. Less clean up.

      Not Real Happy
The bagging system is crazy on this model, when I put the bag on under the flap that flap fills up with grass what's the purpose. Don't like that. I also noticed on this one it's hard for me to start it I have a real old toro at my cabin and one pull is all it takes to start it, this one is sometimes 5-6. For a woman thats to much.

Great mower. Starts right up. Huge opening to pour the gas which is nice. Cuts like a champ. Really large opening to empty the grass catcher without having to peal away the flap. Haven't used the self-propulsion so I can't comment on that. Overall I would recommend this mower.

The Toro was easy to assemble right out of the box. It felt a little lighter than my previous mower and it cut like a charm. I've only had this lawnmower for about three weeks. This is a self propelled and I like the speed at which it cuts. So far no complaints. If you're looking for really great lawnmower at a fantastic price, you can't go wrong with the Toro.

I bought this mower a month ago and have used it 3 times... I love the self propel feature! Could be a bit slower.. it really takes off!! But I get the yard done quick!! I don’t like that It throws grass outside of the bag and clogs into a band of holes it has on the catcher attachment area that isn’t in the manual nor do we know why it’s there!! Hard to clean and messy!! I also don’t like that the catcher is white... Unfortunately I may take the mower back..

Not too bad mowing but clogs terribly.
This mower starts good - so far (2 mo.) But, you can only mow when it is ABSOLUTELY dry (NOT here in Virginia!) and the cut is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. TORO standard answer is 1/3 of grass blade length. I dare them to come to my house! 2 days after a rain and I have to clean the under-deck due to clogging. And that's with discharge open, bagging and discharge closed - no bag. It is really frustrating when my neighbor comes out and just MOWS! Yeah, just mows! And he done in 20 minutes and I'm shoveling grass clippings in trash bags! You can tell when it gets clogged when you here the clumps rolling around under the deck. I have to raise the front to let the clumps fall out so I can make it back to the 'dump station'. I've never had a mower to do this and I've been mowing for 60 years! My first and last TORO! I'm taking it back if Da Depot will refund my money. I have really tried to make this mower work. Good points: Drive seems to be good. Operating handle a little clumsy. Starts good. Hose connection - waste of time. Like large rear wheels. Weird stuff: Ripped skin off arm by sharp bolt when lifting/fitting the catch bag on back. BTW, it has to fit decently to work properly. Probably a good mower for Arizona.

        Lawn master
It goes without saying, I am watching the cash flow. Also, the pandemic is having a effect on lawnmower parts and mowers. I really wanted to get another super recycler like the one I have now (it is over 20 years old). I settled for this model while I will see if I can get my old super recycler up to par. Lawn mower shops are beyond busy, shortage of parts and even some mowers. I used the bag feature and it has been fine. I will bag if there is a lot of leafs and debri to mow. There is some grass blow through from the bag. However, for me, I usually mulch. So this is not a big deal. Runs good so far. I will see how the mulch goes next mowing. I still plan on getting a super recycler in the near futurre or if it is not worth it to fix my very old Toro mower.

After many years of taking it easy on weekends I found myself owning a house and a yard again so I purchased one of these lawnmowers. My sister recommended it as she owns one as well and is very happy with it compared to some other brands she has used in the past. It was easy to get out of the box, easy to assemble (just attach handle and grass catcher bag) easy to service with oil (included) and gasoline (not included). It started on the first pull and I can not remember when the last time was that I had that experience. The first run over the yard showed it to be a great performer which made quick work of that task thankfully (90+ degree day here in Oklahoma). The large fill port for the gas tank is a nice feature that I wish I had on past lawnmowers. It makes it easy to see the level and avoid an overfill. In other good features the large rear wheels make it easier to maneuver especially when you rock it back onto them for a tight turn. Overall a great product that I would not hesitate to recommend.

My wife loves it. I do the large portions with my ride on mower, my wife does the areas close to the house with this Toro, she says this is even easier to use than our last Toro since it has high rear wheels. She also uses it horizontally on the banks of the ditch out front and says it was never this easy. I love that it never needs an oil change (just add oil as needed). Happy wife happy life!

This lawnmower is easy to use from the box. No assembly, just fill out the oil tank and gas tank and you are ready to go. It is not heavy because it is self propelled. Very effective, even on small hills. I strongly recommend this Toro lawnmower.

I needed a push mower for trimming my large yard in areas where I can't get the lawn tractor. Been trying to deal with these spots with a string trimmer, but it was not efficient and we can't seem to find a trimmer that keeps running. Decided on this mower because of the large wheels in the back and it is self propelled--and I have some hills that are just too dangerous for the tractor. Plus I like to keep my dog's part of the yard pretty short and and sometimes mow it and not the whole lawn. Now I am a reasonably intelligent middle-aged woman and can usually figure things out. I was able to pick up the box and put it on the cart, and even get it in my car. It wasn't too heavy to manage, although it was awkward. Once home I unloaded it, and followed all of the instructions and put it together. Probably took me longer than it would have taken hubby, but it was pretty simple once I figured out where things were on the diagram. I didn't even need a screwdriver or a wrench. Easy peasy. It also takes gas, and is not 2 cycle--so that's a win for me. I did have a challenge trying to get on the bag, only because the diagram was odd. However I figured it out. It also comes with a side chute. (Thankfully another customer also shopping for a mower told me the chute would be in the box!) After oil was in and at the correct level, I added the gas. I like the angle of the gas tank very much.. Pulled it into the lawn and it started right up. Seriously, one pull. And I stopped and started it about 15 times. Never had to pull more than once. My challenge was, and is, the wheel height. Even at the highest height, it is still pretty low. Diagram says it is 4" but I have my doubts. However it is good for trimming my big yard. Another issue is mud: we have had a lot of rain, and the ground is saturated. With a lot of clay and a self-propelled mower, it takes some finesse to not make skid marks on the lawn. That being said, just lift up the front wheels and roll it back. I do have too many skid marks but after my first try it will get better and the grass is just going to grow again. Hakuna Matata - no worries. Unfortunately the mud does stay in the tires but it will dry and come off next time. If you keep a neat storage area this might bug you. If you're using this mower with the bag and it becomes too heavy--empty the bag. The bag seems to become primary even with the side chute on. Might be a no-brainer to some of you, but I had to learn the hard way. When I went back out to finish my job I removed the bag and it was packed. Didn't put it back on and the mower was far easier to handle without it. I will probably use the bag when I mow the dog's section. All in all, I had a productive afternoon from out of the box, set up and finished mowing in a few hours. Hopefully this will last me a few years.

I have had this lawn mower for five year and I use it to cut a quarter acre property. The pro's are that it starts up normally on the first pull and does a nice job cutting the grass. My Con's are that from time to time while mowing it starts to lose power like it's not getting enough gas; this only lasts for a second or two but will happen a few times each mow. The Gas cap started leaking after the first year and most recently the handle snapped (I still can't believe this happened). I take good care of my equipment and I just feel like this mower has a few cheap parts that should not be. I have never heard of a metal handle breaking like this.

Hello John, it sounds like you stored the mower with gas in it during the off-season, which is not recommended. Fuel degrades with time, and can create a varnish-like substance that can gum up fuel lines, and/or clog up the carburetor. To avoid these fuel maintenance situations with any small engine unit on the market, we would recommend checking out our fuel facts page regarding fuel choices and how fuel degrades at: (Toro.com/FuelFacts). Additionally, please check out our resource videos regarding what to do in the Fall for storage, and what to do in the Spring at: (Toro.com/en/customer-support/help-center-lawn). These steps for the Spring and Fall are all outlined in the Operator's Manual as well (Toro.com/Manuals). Please know that the 3-year guaranteed to start warranty on the engine from Kohler covers against any manufacturer's defects. The warranty process requires an inspection by an independent authorized service location, which you can find using our locator (Toro.com/Locator). We hope this information helps! Thank you. Toro

We are sorry to hear about the engine failure and your frustration with the determination of the mechanic that physically inspected your machine. If a repair is a result of maintenance such as oil levels, contaminated air filter, deteriorated fuel etc. these would not be considered “defects” to the engine or the unit as stated in the warranty.
